It wasn’t until last week when it struck me that no matter how poor Kenyans are, they will still invest in an unproductive asset. via @dailynation

JKIA is a public utility company built from the taxes we pay. Under normal circumstances, it is subject to general control and regulation. However, many consumers are unaware that their airline ticket price includes a special airport tax.

I was a victim of this mischievous way of dealing with consumers at the public utility. Unaware of the price hike, I parked my car at JKIA to travel to Mombasa for a conference. 24 hours later, my parking fee was Ksh 2,450.

The private provider offering parking services at JKIA has been hiking the parking fees since 2019. It is not clear if the increased charges are to discourage private individuals or the agency is trying to extort the public due to the monopoly status it enjoys.

NDEMO: The pricing of some of the public utilities is very high and not regulated. And the public is always at the mercy of the service provider.

Prof. Bitange Ndemo -because of digitization an artist can take advantage of google to get their art out. 'You are going to see people earning from their creativity. Tokenization will bring money to the people when they need it the most.'

NDEMO: The energy sector could replicate the transformation in the telecommunications sector if the decision-makers can see digitalisation as the driver of the efficiencies they desire to achieve.

In mitigating climate change, we need to revisit the past and pursue green solutions for a safer world in the days to come. Currently, over 600 million Africans are without electricity. This means that there is no legacy on energy issues.
