Consider providing a paired function returning 'null' together with one throwing an exception. Similar to 'toIntOrNull' accompanying 'toInt'.

Java dev for 20 years since I interned with Sun Microsystems, switched to Kotlin this year and so much happier. It's the small things like how tidy data classes are that make my day.

If you know of an Academic Institution that is using Kotlin to teach students programming et al., let us know. We'd love to have people come on the show to talk about their experiences.

Doing async/threading was a nightmare in Android. When our team at switched to , async became fun and enjoyable with Coroutines. Our mobile projects are now Kotlin-first.

Evidence from multiple client projects with @thoughworks teams around the world confirms: using on your next -platform project is a safe bet that will make everyone happy. This has been the case even when the majority of the devs learned on the project.

A bunch of Universities have been (and others starting) using Kotlin to teach programming and other topics. Very exciting to see this grow.

has saved us a lot lately on the Food delivery app we are building for our startup. A combination with ktx and navigation component works like a charm. is the real deal.

Doing a project with some *really* slow-moving third parties. Kotlin + Spring Boot has enabled us to quickly microservice out their dependencies in a way where we do realistic network service calls etc from the main application. Trying to introduce more Kotlin at work, it rocks!

Earlier today, I gave the first lecture for our university subject that teaches the language (without Android!), where about 100 students showed up. Does anyone know if there's another university where the language is being taught?

Switching our Android course to allows us to focus on Android as a platform and less on bloated Java syntax. The students pick it up easily and accomplish more. Just the simplified event handling alone makes it easier on the students. for the win!

Yes, all the time.. It just works, it's awesome. Miss it every day when I have to go back to an old java project and Kotlin is not accepted.

I can remember those scary Android Handlers 😱 for switching between threads until Coroutines came to the rescue ❤️

with there is always a shorter, nicer and more efficient way. it forces you to code clean (that's why i love it) otherwise it may seem you code riddles!! coroutines, extension methods, nullability, sealed classes, are just a few things that save us from coding horrors.
