    This 12th century copy has a lovely opening initial, but while spaces were left for further decorative initials, they were never executed. We're left with a lot of Auline Epistles.

    Haphazard pricing for images across the institutional landscape creates an intellectual problem: we may avoid discussing/writing about important objects b/c they're in collections we can't afford to publish from. (e.g., Fitzwilliam, Zurich, undigitized things in BM)

    Sorting image permissions today: BL: £7.50 RCT: No problem, have it for free BM: that'll be £60 for photography and £35 for a licence This is so, so wrong.

    New from : this small-but-beautiful 16th century manuscript book of prayers. At 15 x 10 cm, it's practically pocket sized. Its tiny, neat script and penwork decoration was the work of Robert Tyas, whose family donated it to the House in 1675:

    There’s literally no reason at all not to use “literally” this way. We do the exact same thing with “really,” “seriously,” “genuinely,” “no joke” etc. Hyperbole is not a grammatical error.
