    This historic photo has two cars, four people, and two people on each car. One person drives, the other swings a polo mallet. Here, two people are in midair after getting thwacked off their car.
    Auto polo, devised by a Ford dealer, was described by a British car magazine as "a lunatic game." Players called mallet men held onto the sides of cars while trying to hit a basketball with a three-pound polo mallet. ~5,000 people attended a match in 1912.

    In Sweden in the early 20th century, few had a solid understanding of sexuality. Elise Ottosen-Jensen sought to change this by founding the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU) in 1933. She was a pioneer for women's and LGBT rights.

    This is Eva Ekeblad, one of Swedish history's most prominent scientists. Ekeblad was also an inventor and the first woman elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the same academy that awards the Nobel Prize in chemistry, physics and economics.
