    And spoke of this historic moment of the movement in an honest way that required a lot of courage. This past election that elected people like you & I was an indication that there has been a shift in our country. Some just preferred to dismiss it.

    I hope folks listen to what Anand is saying here. Mass movements are beginning to transform our political landscape in a way we haven’t seen in a long time. This kind of politics is an important shift away from saviorism. It’s not about “the one” - it’s about the many.

    These progressively zoomed-in maps identify places in the US that had an active chapter of a particular private organization comprised of ordinary citizens between 1915 and 1940. Look at the maps and make your guess as to what that organization was...answer in next tweet.

    My new colleagues in 1994 told me I should put my name on all my grad students' publications so I'd have many more publications. (Advice from male profs to female)

    I interviewed for a job in 2000 where the chair of the department proudly told me he and his wife spent their summers in the archives together researching the books he then published under his name. He recommended I do the same. (Reader: I did not do that.)

    Great, great essay, and it points out what makes me the most nervous about free college tuition proposals: that they won't be properly resourced and thus exacerbate the precarity of most academic labor while creating crowded and subpar unis for the 99%
