    Timely thread for those concerned about . This ongoing drought is like a creeping bushfire, affecting vast areas of the country. Emergency funding is desperately needed to map the extent and severity of impacts so we can prioritize responses

    Important to note that the extreme drought leading up to recent catastrophic fires is ongoing with massive impacts across southern and eastern Australia. Here is a photo showing drought affected forest close to Bathurst - this forest has not been burnt!

    The fires across Australia points to the urgent need for appropriate ecosystem management. Great to see in the zero draft of the global biodiversity framework published today an target focusing on maintaining and enhancing integrity.

    This is a nice visual summary from the BBC of the Australia bushfire crisis. Once the immediate crisis is over, protection and restoration of more fire resistant riparian vegetation will be crucial for nature and people
