"My father was clapping wildly at my strikeout and taking pictures. His son, as he understood it, had not had to endure the punishment of running around this diamond-shaped field, which he took to be a major victory." Nice one, !

Our Virtual with "Missed Translations" author and moderator is now on YouTube! Lupita and Sopan discussed the first-generation immigrant experience, how comedy informed his memoir writing, and what it's like for people of color in publishing.

I really wish stories like these existed when I was growing up/younger and I'm so happy for a generation that gets to grow up seeing how diverse South Asian storytelling can be, and that we are not a monolith defined by tone-deaf jokes about mocking indian accents 😋

Between binging 's and reading 's Missed Translations all in one go this weekend, I've had a lot of positive crying in the past few days. I'm so glad to live in a time where we have such brilliantly nuanced South Asian stories being told👏🏾

If you read it and it resonates with you too, message me. I'm easy to get in touch with That kind of connection means way more to me than what any critic has to say about this.

Missed Translations came out a week ago, and I was worried that this would mostly be read by my friends and colleagues. And then I started getting wonderful messages like these in multiple forms from total strangers who say they can relate to my story. Incredibly grateful.

i love this interview with toni kukoc because it shines a light on how much kukoc absolutely did not care about anything thrown his way. nothing could faze him.

I can so relate to this piece by having also grown up in New Jersey with an Indian father and being clueless about all the sports my friends were enjoying. It's a great read. (I get bonus points because for a time I also lived in Howell, NJ!)
