    On the left is Piedmont Park, a Democratic stronghold with a 4-hour line to vote. On the right is Chastain Park, located in Atlanta’s whitest and most conservative precinct. There is literally no line. Georgia’s top election official is a Republican.

    Please enough with the 'neutrality' language when the facts are well-established. Leopold is not 'accused' of heinous crimes. He committed genocide and it is very well-documented. We don't say Hitler and Stalin are 'accused of heinous crimes' do we? They are facts.

    Like many Alabamians, I'm reminded of another recent "good guy with a gun" scenario that ended even more tragically. E.J. Bradford, a black man, was fatally shot in the back by Hoover Police after pulling a gun to stop an active shooter at the mall on Thanksgiving Day 2018.

    At the very least, as a teacher racialised as white with pitiful knowledge of both Black History and Literature, this view reminds me of my accountability to have humility, to de centre myself and do the work - and step up to do better.

    The patronising way Agard (and occasionally other Black writers) are often taught in school makes me think of wry point that Black History and Literature are not safe in schools - better with the community and sites

    This. Another example of the many ways science is deeply political, with deep human rights problems.

    A reminder to scientists annoyed by the current conversations on anti-racism in STEM: Some of us think about and live this every day. Being able to do "just do science" is a privilege. For years, we have carried the brunt of the work, but it is your time to step up and help us.

    The number of *deep sighs* I sigh every day is so high. Thank God this man is alive and I hope he gets a huge settlement.

    We finally have details on Decatur (Ala.) police punching and detaining a black store owner—breaking his jaw—after HE called THEM to report a robbery. It happened 3 months ago, but it's only today come to light, once again, thanks to video footage. (Info in thread below)
