In order to be able to use this in my Django Project, I need to be able to use the default Django decorator '@login_required()', which will redirect a user to a 'LOGIN_URL', while providing GET parameter 'next=/page-we-came-from/' after a successfull login has been performed. The latest oauthenticator changes didn't trigger a RTD build (the RTD page shows the last oauthenticator build was 2 months ago: https://readthedocs.org/projects/oauthenticator/builds/)
I'm not sure if it's related to jupyterhub/jupyterhub#2427 or if it's something else.
