    The new dating suggests that, instead of a palace, the complex was a Manichaean monastery abandoned shortly after its sponsor Bogu, a Uyghur Khan who introduced Manichaeism as a state religion, died in 780. How exciting!

    A nice such example in the Stein collection is the beautifully painted piece of silk that belongs to a 21-meter long Buddhist scroll in Khotanese and Sanskrit (IOL Khot S 46) that is fully digitised

    The museum’s conservation team has just finished restoration work of two textile pieces from the Potala Palace in Tibet, which took them quite a few months. The pieces function as the canopy in the Maitreya (also known as the Future Buddha) Chapel of the Palace.
