Super excited that our speculative fiction short stories about the future of work, Working Futures is now out: Please check it out. The book is really wonderful, full of excellent stories by great authors (and then also a couple by me).

Even the GOP-leaning of Commerce had this to say: “Regardless of the circumstances that led up to this, this is not how public policy is made in the United States. An executive order cannot be properly used to change federal law.”

No, , no. That may be what he *SAYS* but it's NOT what the executive order DOES, and reporting it this way is journalistic malpractice. Stop it.

Quite a day for me. Here I'm in 100% agreement with Mary Anne on an issue related to Section 230. I assure you this has probably never happened before.

Dear : Your Executive Order is a farce. The courts interpret Section 230, not . Your “US policy” doesn’t matter if it conflicts with the statute or case law. That’s why your EO calls for legislation, which is dead on arrival in . Go pound sand.

The executive order re: Section 230 is premised on an incorrect reading of Section 230. It's............... just a new and different law that never existed before. One that wasn't passed by the legislature.

Obama signs executive order protecting children of undocumented immigrants. Republicans: "Imperial President!" "King Obama!" Trump signs executive order, DURING A FU%KING PANDEMIC, because Twitter put a tiny flag on one of his absolutely false tweets. Republicans:

Just so we're clear, the president and his advisers are falsely denouncing nonexistent social media censorship to justify a legally baseless executive order at a time when everyone else is talking about the fact that the coronavirus has killed more than 100,000 Americans.

This, from the executive order, completely unmasks what a laughable exercise in bad faith this whole thing really is. It's all about bullying social media companies into treating Trump's lies as truths, and truths about Trump's bottomless corruption as lies:

Look it’s not that I’m unaware of how unconstitutional and authoritarian this Executive Order is - it’s just that he’s pretty clearly doing this particular unconstitutional authoritarian thing because he doesn’t want people talking about his botched pandemic response.

Between the draft and the final result, the White House removed a reference to the media having free speech rights. Bit on the nose, ain't it?

Guess what! You can! If you don't like Twitter, don't use it. You don't even need an EO for that.

Today's nonsense was yet another example where a bipartisan majority of experts know a Trump proposal is just rushed nonsensical bullshit, but everybody (including the press) helped him portray it as serious adult policy. maybe there's a lesson there?

A really good read. And it's worth noting that it's now a common tactic for regulators and companies to point to big tech's bad behavior when their own is under scrutiny. .

I guess Congressman Nadler has turned in his ACLU card and his right to claim to be a 1st amendment warrior. That is not the man I worked with on flag burning issues 18 years ago. It makes me so sad.

Remember when Republicans like this dispshit would go around saying the answer to speech you don't like is "more speech." He was lying.
