So if charges 11,000$ to publish a paper open-access that is already basically available for free on you are essentially paying for the imprimatur right? In that case shouldn’t the paper be labeled as advertisement?

In honor of I feel the need to declare that I’m quite tired of most of this... I’ve only been at this for about 5 years. And I know I’m very lucky & many have been at this longer. Keep up the good fight.

MPDL’s 2015 white paper shows that libraries put enough money into the system to cover the cost of publishing AND legacy publishers’ obscene profit margins. Our collective capital has power (for now), and putting it towards these agreements will only create a new serials crisis.

Allowing trans authors to retrospectively change their names on publications is a small policy/practice change with a huge impact. High-fives to the scholarly community for calling for this and to 's to make sure our own journal is on board. 🏳️‍⚧️

“Agreements that arrange for paying exorbitant amounts for publishing OA in prestigious jrnls do nothing to improve the accessibility & equitability of the publishing system & merely show everything can be had if you just throw enough money at it” & 👍🔥

I've been thinking a lot about value/mission alignment since I heard talk to the community about weaving values into standard library protocols

The theme transcends focusing on access to articles bc the community understands the complexities of the larger ecosystem. It's hard to have OA journals due to RPT requirements. The traditional system is entrenched in inequities & exclusion - often due to larger system issues

A3. I particularly like the "purpose" highlight as so much of the work is very reactive to the status quo vs. proactive for the future (over-generalization sure...). It isn't often to get the space & resources to do this
