    Record breaking heat and vast amounts of wildfire smoke. Western US quite literally in the furnace. 11 states under the smoke.

    I cannot recall a time when so much smoke was smothering the West. The smoke from Calif. fires and other blazes covers at least 11 states and parts of 2 Canadian provinces.

    Ouch... risk of sting jet. Ferocious and sudden increase of winds will be possible in this storm.

    Pressure has fallen 13mb in last 3hrs and is now 972mb. Wind easterly, 30kts mean speed, so low centre still south of Cork. Very feasible could deepen to ~965mb, deeper than 12z ECMWF & UKMO models predicted. Sat pic shows interesting features.
