Perspective & Context

As a strategy formulation, we are trying to change a situation A into a better situation B. This process might end in the real world, but it starts in our imaginations, in the virtual world. This is an exploration of synthesizing perspectives from Business to Code & Infrastructure of a virtual world in the context of new generation of Sensors, Edge, 5G Rollout & Cloud to aid in decision making for design, build, and deploy of Business Applications.

Technology & Business - Customer Use Cases, Trying & Learning

Using Amazon.com, Inc. as an example for transforming businesses starting with a recent thread on Twitter...

"Hi Werner, I was wondering... what advice would you offer to somebody who'd like to be a CTO someday? Especially for the younger folks, what should one know or how should one prepare themselves for their future? Appreciate you taking the time to read this.

in one tweet? 1) if you want to be a VP of Engineering focus on teams and people and how to make them succesfull 2) wanna be a CTO? Simplify. Focus on the business, what is the simplest, most robust Tech/Ops that makes the business succeed."

Is there a pattern?

  1. Highly Aligned, Loosely Coupled

  2. Talent, Resources, Diversity and Inclusiveness

  3. Where do great architectures come from? --Mary Poppendieck

Innovation lead time is from idea to getting customer response so you know if it's a good idea or not. Making that short and light-weight is a way to measure how you get out of the way of innovation, and let more ideas blossom --Adrian Cockcroft

Context matters, even the effective implementation of doctrine requires you to understand context i.e. focus on user needs (universal) varies with implementation (i.e. what needs to focus on) -- Simon Wardley

"the organizations that build the future become 'graduate studies' in the skills they require to do so"

Shipping Org Chart, Conway's Law Reverb "you always ship your organization, so design your organization well"

The changes are likely going to accelerate technology transformations ( COVID ) in small, medium & large business.

Tools & Services - "Great Apps come from developers using tools they love, getting value from the product in seconds leading to greater reuse and wider adoption"

There’s no question the world will be a better place if everyone can innovate more quickly and efficiently. And if stuff just works better

  1. Open Source & Community -- Kelsey Hightower, Developer & Open Source Advocate, Google Cloud

  2. Organizations can capitalize on the unprecedented levels of investment made by the hyperscalers in cloud-native applications and business capabilities

  3. The Architecture of Open Source Applications

Architects look at thousands of buildings during their training, and study critiques of those buildings written by masters. In contrast, most software developers only ever get to know a handful of large programs well—usually programs they wrote themselves—and never study the great programs of history. As a result, they repeat one another’s mistakes rather than building on one another’s successes.

  2. API Applications

  3. Workflows & Integrations

  4. Sandbox to evaluate components, integrations & compositions
