    Creating jobs is one of our main priorities. So is making sure people have the right skills for those jobs. To help companies and people ease into job transitions, EU countries should develop measures in line with 3 strands. EU funds will help with this.

    This proposal is even more important in the Covid pandemic. Women are disproportionately affected. Their overrepresentation in lower paid sectors made them particularly vulnerable in the labour markets struck by the crisis. We can’t reinforce further these inequalities.

    We want to empower job seekers and workers with tools to demand fair salary and to know and claim their rights. This is also why employers must become more transparent about their pay policies. No more double standards, no more excuses.

    The proposal does not tie the hands of businesses, it leaves flexibility for small and medium enterprises in particular. We also made sure that the costs on employers are not heavy and pose no extra burden.

    The gender in Europe is stubbornly stuck at 14%. We decided to do something about it. We present proposal for a directive on and enforcement of right. We must end the discrimination in pay and ensure equal pay for equal work.
