    Happy birthday to astronaut Ellen Ochoa, who became the first Latina astronaut to go to space. In 2013, she became the first Latina and second female director of the Johnson Space Center. Learn more about her story:

    Between 1965 and 1998, over 70,000 nurses responded to a shortage of nurses in the U.S. and immigrated here. Maria Jayme was one of them. She came to Florida from the Philippines in 1994. Jayme received this nurse’s cap when she completed her degree.
