Look at this! This is amazing looking! I like the Library of Birmingham now, and I like this. I do not like the horrible concrete thing that destroyed this, and was in its turn destroyed for the much cooler new one. See the thread for a picture from inside it!

Note that Gnome Tweaks lets you set what the Compose Key is (and put this in the default keyboard settings too). On my machine that's set to Scroll Lock, and indeed the Scroll Lock key works as Compose, the same as Shift+AltGr! So you can Scroll Lock, ', e to get é!

Can someone explain to me why there are long lines at US polling places? There aren't in the UK. Logistical answers please, not political, so not "cos it makes it harder to vote". I agree it does! Why aren't there more booths? Money? Legally prohibited? Not enough volunteers?

Also, people, can anyone explain to me how I can easily add new compose key combinations? And maybe we should make it do emoji characters and so on too? Compose ' e to make é and < + 3 for ♥ and Compose : ) for ☺ are cool; let's add more for everyone!

If you really get into this Compose key thing, then will teach you a bunch of compose key combinations for stuff; you pretty quickly learn how they think, so if you want ® you think "that's an R in a circle, so it's Compose, O, R) and can guess.

Ubuntu people, Shift+AltGr, then hit hyphen three times. Not quite the same as having a dedicated key, but the Shift+AltGr trick (the "Compose" key) lets you type all sorts of stuff by guessing. Shift+AltGr, /, O types Ø by combining them.

The thing they don't say here is that it's not them moving the Avebury stones because the clocks changed. No, all the clocks in your house need changing because they moved the Avebury stones. Doing so alters what time is.

I am glad that Public Health England's Variant & Mutant Taskforce track altered versions of covid to keep us safe. And I know their biggest consideration in naming these is not that it sounds like we're in the X-Men universe. But... that sounds like we're in the X-Men universe.

I don't agree with all of this from , but: , you're a perfect example of more harm than good. You've been coasting on your legacy for years. Now you've discredited yourselves to where people justifiably question not just you but your entire philosophy as superseded.

Although I now suspect that it isn't that nobody brought up that "Slack Connect" could be used for harassment, it's that even if someone had brought it up it would have been ignored because it's being built so C-level execs can read more employee messages

it is so much easier and less embarrassing to listen to the people who bring this stuff up while you're designing these things than it is to "receive valuable feedback from our users" after release. If nobody brought it up while designing: hire someone.

Just chatting to someone who seemed quite appealing in a fresh, kinda innocent way. "I'm in a contest to count all the toilets in this building," they said. "There are 26! But I don't know whether I was first to answer or not!" "Ah," I said. "You winsome, you loo sum."
