There’s nothing you can tell me, as a colonized person whose island was cut in half & colonized by Germany & the U.S. (with one half still being a U.S. territory today) that would make me think that what’s happening to Palestinians is “too complicated to understand”.

"Blind people, advocates slam company claiming to make websites ADA compliant" Great piece. Kudos to reporter for quoting many people in this story including 1 / 2

It’s personal to me too, even aside from knowing Jane (and other Kundiman fellows). Poetry and spoken word is something I frequently turn to to deal with... well, everything 😅. Anyway, here’s a poem by Jane:

Jane Wong is an absurdly talented poet, author, professor, and friend. She’s raising money for Kundiman, a nonprofit that supports AAPI writers. Supporting Kundiman is a great way to help Asian-Americans build our own spaces, identities, and healing.

It’s currently AAPI (Asian-American and Pacific Islander) heritage month, and if anyone on here has been paying attention to and is looking for ways to help, I highly recommend considering this:

“Check if a complicated interaction can be broken down into simpler parts.” I feel like most bad ARIA could be avoided if more people followed that advice (and also the rest of this article by ) 😄

Selection following focus is a crappy user-hostile pattern that has hamstrung our ability to define good selection semantics for modern widgets. AMA

Using a button for something like <button role="tab"> might be helpful for other reasons (high contrast, keyboard accessibility), but not because it's "semantic". The role took away the HTML semantics, that's the point 😂

It's not semantic HTML anymore if you override the semantics with a custom role. <ul role="tree"> isn't any more semantic than <div role="tree">
