I'm not underrepresented anymore. Y'all are over-represented. Not going to use a negative to describe my existence. I'm Bryan, and I'm supposed to be here.

This is where we don’t disagree. My thought was to understand what you are asking for.

I got a new mic. It makes mes sound like Barry White (in my head at least). Zoom calls with me are going to be different going forward.

This pandemic is literally burning people out. How do you manage those feelings? I've starting trying to finding validation in myself rather than looking for it externally.

I really liked this summary from Matt. So much wisdom in this sentence: “Carrot” migrations are almost always successful. “Stick” migrations are rarely successful, or if they are, leave behind a trail of tears and anger within the organization.https://twitter.com/mattklein123/status/1437825997651406848 …

I don’t know if life is hitting me hard or something else, but I’ve been extra to-the-point in meetings lately. I like this Bryan. Serious about his time, but not a jerk about it.

Framing things as good or bad is means you can’t grow. They don’t mean anything. From now on, I’m not using absolutes. We are are either better or worse off than we were in the past. The measure for what’s acceptable will rise over time, but it’s still only better or worse.

You can’t listen if you are talking. You can’t learn if you aren’t listening. So assume that those who choose to talk constantly in meetings haven’t learned enough to share anything of substance.

When you try to make something idiot-proof, you make a big assumption that you, the creator, are not the actual idiot. Instead, don’t assume your idiots are idiots. What do they need to know to make them successful?

One of the things I learned through out my career is that it is relatively easy to say smart things in a meeting. It’s harder to make those smart things real. The hardest thing is making your smart ideas feel like everyone’s idea. Your idea isn’t great until it’s bigger than you.

I reject the premise of “impossible”. Instead, I try to reframe as “not now” or not “not worth solving”. If something is difficult, I’m likely approaching the problem in the wrong way, or have not identified the real problem.

It’s too hard to say you don’t know what you are doing. We need to normalize failure, but that’s impossible when everyone cheats to only show their wins.

When Michael K Williams played a character on the screen, I believed he *was* that character and no one else could do it better. From Omar, to Chalky, to Irish, to Montrose. We lost a great one today.

Nothing gets the quote tweets, snarky replies, and DMs flowing more than insisting software developers are overpaid. Who are *you* to state a group of people are overpaid?

Some people really believe that if you set your mind to something, you can accomplish anything. I wish it worked that way.

Before saying we aren’t ready for a great idea, realize great ideas always sound like they’re way too early. The separator of greatness vs mediocrity is realizing how to determine when an idea isn’t great sooner.https://seths.blog/2021/08/great-ideas-always-sound-like-theyre-far-too-soon/ …
