Finally I know in Islam images of our dead aren't allowed to prevent idolatry. Nakshy & all of us in 🇰🇪 (including mukhanat) live with our existence being erased, is it not right that just once even if it is in death our existence is acknowledged. Allahu 'alam اَللّٰهُ أَعْلَم

And yes I will totally understand if our organisations said "hey this is just work for us" - it's the hustle nation after all. This way when we are faced with real things like this upcoming law we know to fight for ourselves and not to put our faith outside our individual selves

And I can't blame governments, churches and NGOs for playing the money game - it's what they do. But what about our civil society organisations are our deaths only valuable when they are terrible or violent and they can be used to fundraise some more with #Justice hashtags?

I am waiting to see a government department stick out its neck for us and say "The acronyms TGs in our reports and our statistics are real human beings" and we have been feeding the 'money in exchange for data machine' on testing, adherence, training attendance with their lives

There is a huge focus on insurance for machines than there is for health insurance for people. Right now we have a law that is being proposed that criminalises our existence everything from where we can work, to if we can rent a house, or take a piss and life sentences attached

The second trigger is related to our access to livelihoods. Again in 2019 only five people in the whole community were earning above $700 a month everyone else was below $100 and navigating informal employment. Despite running organisations we still struggle with livelihood

Nakshy's death has triggered me in a ton of ways. When we wrote the guidelines our life expectancy as transgender people was 50 years old due to multiple socioeconomic vulnerabilities. Every time I have to mourn someone younger than me this truth hits home hard.

I didn't take part in implementing work post 2919 but Nakshy did and was a regional coordinator. We interacted twice more in 2020 for a meeting and then in 2021 as I sought shelter, food and housing for a community person who was stranded in Kenya's coast and she offered to help.

It pains me I should eulogise Nakshy in this way. I would hope those people whose lives she has touched would be speaking of her life, not me a trans sister who has met her only thrice. I met her first when the Community wrote the transgender HIV guidelines for Kenya in 2019

This past week we lost Nakshy Saeed Ibrahim, a transgender woman and Director of a Community organisation. Nakshy had been ill since last year. Inna lillahi wa Inna ilahyi raji'un indeed we belong to Allah and to him we shall return. إِنَّا ِلِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

What NGO-ization of resistance has done is to enable a group of people who have developed a career from marginalized communities based off of the fact they majored in neoliberal speak of donors. Whole communities are infantalised and reduced to thematic areas in proposals.

On this madaraka day I pray one day this nation-state ceases to exist. There’s no sovereignty or democracy to speak of, this is a country that is hanging on by borders and internal order which are all maintained by violence.

The gaps in this logic are laughable if they didn’t have both life and material implications. The very institution she chairs is colonial, starting with the wig to personal aspiration to closer to whiteness by way of change in skin color. Now let’s talk funding?! 😂😂

Museveni assented to the Anti-Homosexuality Act. This means death to consenting adults. With this bill, its no longer be possible for LGBTQ people to rent homes or access health care services. Just when you thought Uganda couldnt get any worse on violation of human rights.

#This A conversation with The real struggles of Families in Kenya are in Article 43 of the Constitution (healthcare, food, housing, social welfare) We do not see any law that imprisons government officials when they fail this duty

LGBTQ are not a threat to the family. Taxes, unemployment, poverty, divorce, sexual violence in homesteads, government policies that force the youth to migrate while separating them from home are the REAL threats to the family. Procreation is expensive. ghettoradio.co.ke/address-the-re

It's very easy to look at that Uganda law and imagine that it only applies to queer and trans Ugandans. And, sure, they are the focus of that hateful bill. But: the bill puts EVERYONE'S intimate life under scrutiny. EVERYONE.

Sending Love to all my Transgender sisters in Pakistan 🇵🇰 Pakistan has one of the most progressive laws for transgender people in the world but that is now under threat by a growing global anti rights movement and homohysteria
Quote Tweet
#Pakistan 🇵🇰 The Federal Shariat Court of Islamabad on Friday ruled that certain sections of the country's groundbreaking transgender law do not comply with their interpretation of Islamic principles, including the right to a self-perceived gender identity and inheritance rights.

1/ Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. We as BFF celebrate the anniversary of May 17, 1990, when the WHO removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. For us LGBTQIA+ equality embodies a human right.

I never thought this Moi quote "Imeongeza vikombe ngapi vya chai na sufuria za Ugali kwako" would be relevant because it discouraged political thought But in this age of shallowness can Kenyans at least think about their basics? Before you scream Article 45 weep for Article 43

Alafu for team "God is in control" think twice - your God writes commandments in people's hearts these legislators in Texas and their Kenyan parliament friends will put them on walls. ---- They came for the queers, Kenyans cheered them on. Next they come for your Bill of rights

The bill author says she’s a champion of “parental rights.” So I asked her if state-sponsored religious indoctrination violates the rights of parents. This was her response.

Okay Church in session. 💯💥 For all those borrowing "Family Protection" legislation from the US and Christian morals - please also borrow this kind of representation

Texas Republicans are trying to force public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom. I told the bill author: “This bill is not only un-constitutional and un-American, it’s deeply un-Christian.” #txlege

Currently in the US there are 472 pending bills against trans people. 13 States have passed legislation that denies our humanity. The Kenyan proposed bill has clauses literally lifted from Florida and Montana. 99% of our legislators have never seen a transgender person

The worst part is nothing in our hearts trembles or quivers. The ancestors do not move in us anymore. Headlines like this are glorified and seen as good deeds and no one peels back the bandaid to examine our rotting gangrenous wound. But we want them to rest in peace - Hayibo

In Meru "elders" sit in land committees . They are notorious for going after land that belongs to widowed women. In order for ease of governance the coloniser helped consolidate similar language groups into the "Meru" tribe
Quote Tweet
Replying to @John_msee and @justmwihaki
The council of elders is a neo-colonial creation. Those with power, have traditionally been medicine men and diviners and even then their power was located in particular villages - there was never any centralised power structures. These people are bible wielding imposters
