    Another wonderful thread on how the west-oriented HE system is debunk as much as it is precarious and how decolonization is essential and urgent!

    What we value as academics vs how academic work is evaluated by various stakeholders in politics/media/outside of HigherEd has been a clear undercurrent in . One problem I've talked about before is the criterion of 'innovation'. Some more thoughts: THREAD 🧵1/25

    TIL about and I think you should, too. Reading ’s Distributed Blackness last night made me think about the presumed neutrality but default whiteness of the Internet. This seems like a terrific effort to address that.

    Something I’m trying to impress upon settlers is that, given their shallow (hundred-odd year) connection to place versus Indigenous (millennia-deep) relations to place, we need settler scientists to sit back and listen when we say repair is actually possible in our lifetimes.

    Only 20% of the world (primarily white male editors from North America and Europe) edits 80% of Wikipedia currently, and only 1 in 10 of the editors is female. The result is that there are more articles written about Antarctica than about most countries in Africa.

    ah yes, the gatekeeping of who is (known) and notable is prevalent on Wikipedia. have been working tirelessly to change this via but ofc, these things are (infra)structural. parallels to be made between this & Twitter's verification ~process

    Did you know that notable women are nearly twice as likely to be considered unremarkable? I did.
