Standing offer: If you’re building consumer hardware and want advice on anything (business strategy, building a team, finding suppliers, go to market, design/architecture decisions, fundraising, etc), send me a DM and I am happy to have a call with you.

The FTC blocking Meta’s acquisition of Within would be net negative for consumer innovation. In part because of the obvious chilling effects on investment in consumer, but more because it breaks the acquisition->vest out->start a new company with the money pipeline.
If I was still a mid 20’s software engineer, I would legitimately work at Musk twitter for a year. Seeing how many pieces you can pull out of the machine without it breaking sounds like fun.

A pretty fantastic solution to an important problem. An electric stove that is both substantially better than gas and less environmentally damaging!

We’ve raised a $20M Series A from @Lux_Capital @fifthwallvc @lachygroom @constructcap and many others to accelerate decarbonization in the home. This is in addition to a $5M seed round last year from @Lux_Capital, @constructcap, and @lachygroom. techcrunch.com/2022/11/15/imp

The ugly version of this: it's easy to end up building to a very cool but unfundable product plan, which is especially rough for consumer hardware, where bootstrapping from zero is usually out of reach.

Takeaways after doing many calls over the last month: 1. People are building some seriously cool stuff 2. Too many consumer founders are overindexing on secrecy and undervaluing early community development 3. Aligning milestones to fundraising is hard in the current climate

Taiwan’s zoning is amazing. I just visited the sales office for a supplier in a pretty dense part of Taipei, and it turns out their *entire production capacity* is a full floor of the same office building. #officegoals

We actually are using these comments to sanity check our product roadmap.

When we say we're remaking consumer electronics, we mean all of it (eventually). What products beyond laptops do you want to see upgradeable, customizable, repairable versions of?

Idea: Lay off a random 20% of Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon, and MS and require those 150k people to either start a startup or join one with <50 people. Faster, leaner Big Tech, an outlet for VC dry powder, and thousands of new attempts to solve interesting, important problems!

This is the most confusing ballot I've ever seen. I'm one of the fools who accidentally voted Yes on both I and J. You can blame me if SF's government implodes.

In case you're wondering whether SF is back, you can now get office space across the street from Salesforce Park for <$30/sqft. A great time to start something!

Being in an unpopular category for venture capital, we've always operated with a priority on "default alive". This has put us in a really great position for what the next couple of years are going to look like!

Now is a good time to take a look at jobs.frame.work 😄
