‘We’re about as Marxist as a cream tea’; me on how the National Trust got caught in a culture war. NB if you’re a Trust member, you can vote in its upcoming AGM, & I politely suggest you may like to do so

As a person of colour how can it be wrong to want to remember that my ancestors survived their role in making this country the great diverse nation it is? Acknowledging the slaves role in the slavers celebratory statues must surely be the least we can expect?

Completely agree. "Contested histories" is very poor terminology. We are all speaking about evidence based research. Contested histories implies it's being made up or is disputed by serious historians in the field

Detached and ironic, with a pervasive sense of youthful ennui. The PTC is translating Rong Yu’s poems from the Chinese, next Tuesday Lunchtime Ocy 19th. Pay-What-You-Can:

Trying to shake off tonsillitis one nap at a time, only to find out that THE BLACK ISSUE (the first guest edited issue in its 160+ year history) has been shortlisted for the 'Content Piece of the Year' category. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!✨

The word 'controversial' is doing a lot of work here. is one of our clearest voices on empire and racism. She's only controversial if you can't stomach anything less than a whitewashed history (and present).

It would appear has not read articles from the same newspaper providing evidence of slavery's contribution to Empire. No they are not separate issues.

Don’t @ me saying I am petty because your fav is problematic. AF! There has been zero acknowledgement of the harm done; zero recognition of appalling behaviour that put me and my colleagues at risk; zero indication that this behaviour won’t be repeated.

your view of us as a "group of partisan academics" is straight from the Daily Mail. The report's historical sources WERE peer reviewed. Once & for all we DIDN'T say Churchill had anything to do with slavery! Leave our reputations alone

Please save my time and yours by making clear in the initial approach to my author how much you will be paying them for their time & expertise, and when/how long you want them for. We all have a living to make, and it looks shady when you don't offer this info up front.

Omg how insanely queer and transphobic are all these people that theyre losing their minds over a kid PLAYING DRESS UP. Theres literally NOTHING sexualised about a long floaty dress, a necklace, and painting your face in bright colours, and its really warped to project onto that.
