The part that annoys me the most? That Signal's adoption is driven by a clique of Silicon Valley ideologues. As if users are just lemmings that don't have beliefs of their own or preferences for privacy!

There's real value to other alternatives to Reddit's model. There is something magical about different sections of Twitter cross-pollinating. And I've made strong work connections off of here. But y'all...Reddit is way more chill. And the internet needs more chill tbh

I've heard the pitch about our secret sauce but hearing it from external sources is very valuable. There are serious subreddits for heavy issues. But Battan's right: it's the low-stakes fun, community trust, lack of self-promotion, and siloed spaces. It's a tasty gumbo!

Not trying to be pollyannish but the fact that people are creating spaces like this to divert people drawn to this culture gives me a lot of hope. Policies alone can't accomplish this imo
