I PASSED WITH HONORS! 😭💛
And I am officially an ‘Advanced Doctoral Student’ aka I can now include “PhD Candidate” in my email signature 😂

After several days of mental rest, I’ve recovered from my comp exams - a brutal 9 hours of writing two papers and submitting my dissertation proposal
and even if there’s a possibility of not passing, I realized after the whole ordeal that I am quite a brilliant scholar.

I went to a dear friend’s thesis presentation and there was a white linguistics professor who talked about how Indigneous communities have disempowered languages bc our elders withdraw and please. How do I as an undergraduate engineering major have more critical thinking skills

Climate justice also means taking care of one another in your community and maintaining good relation with one another. Sharing your food, supporting elders, donating to community mutual aid. This work is just as important as the work researchers do.

The taking of land is a non consensual action and this is rooted in how the physical land itself is affected by the effects of climate change (erosion of coastal shore ect).

This is so so important and something I’ve always known since doing the work I do. When you view land as a commodity and solely as a transactional process, people approach the desecration of land as a transactional process when that isn’t the case at all.

Researchers need to understand that when doing work on climate change the desecration of land, melting of permafrost ect. are rooted in how historical trauma manifests in our communities and goes unresolved because of the current systems in place.

The event with was so so amazing. Need folks to really think about how communities that are affected by settler colonialism can continue to build solidarity with each other.

A little life update as they say: Today, I left Texas and moving back to New Mexico for a few weeks. Before heading to my new city, Washington DC, to report from the hill with an organization I’ve longed admired, . I’m going to be a political correspondent.

I don’t have all the answers but one thing I was taught growing up was that there are times you should step back and simply listen and learn.

academia is so so humbling. thankful for my mentors and those who have supported me but hearing folks talk of my communities and their projected research in them as solely extractive processes makes me so sick.
