    An article I wrote years ago which was deemed unworthy of REF submission is also my most cited publication by a huge margin. Clever title see. I remember that whenever I'm tempted to think that either the REF, or citations, are measures of the value or quality of a publication.

    Reminds me of an interview I did with a fisheries expert post-Fukushima. I asked what the effect of the nuclear disaster was on fish; he said fish love it -- no fishing off Fukushima for a while.

    The exclusion zone around Chernobyl has become a thriving wildlife refuge. The extra radiation has had some negative impacts on plants and animals, but that seems to be massively outweighed by the benefits of not having any people around:

    I want to be clear: it is my strong belief that our Destiny as a species is to seek the stars and bring life to the cosmos But to propose projects of this scale is to implicitly turn your back on the urgent tasks facing our species NOW - a failed world system + a dying biospbere

    Bezos is talking about building enormous, rotating habitats in space that can hold upwards of a million people. Some would be cities, some would be natural parks, he said.
