My friends in crypto have often asked why I decided to join Stripe from a crypto "native" company or over other crypto startups. It's because I believed Stripe was uniquely positioned to bring crypto to the next 1 billion people, especially in non-Western parts of the world.

4/ Having one of the most important payments companies in the world, @stripe, adopting USDC is an indicator of things to come. We @circlepay share their mission to grow the GDP of the internet, and believe USDC is going to become a key building block for internet commerce.

3/ USDC provides an open platform for connecting people with value, with Twitter users able to bring a digital wallet and receive payments. By building on USDC for Polygon, it allows for large-scale transactions at pennies cost. Yes, crypto payments can reach internet scale!

2/ A long held promise of digital currency like USDC has been removing friction and enabling anyone, anywhere to easily receive payments. Twitter creators exist everywhere the internet exists, and existing payment systems are expensive and complex to reach people easily.

10/ So, kudos to @BarackObama for starting a discussion on disinformation – and huge congrats to @McFaul @EileenDonahoe @MarietjeSchaake @FSIStanford and @StanfordCyber for catalyzing that conversation. Now we need to go further. We need to build a better internet. We need web3.

9/ Web3 platforms are purpose built to help solve the challenges of trust and transparency plaguing democracies. They are designed specifically to help societies achieve consensus on the bedrock facts that serve as the anchors for our lives and institutions.

8/ In web3, healthy, engaged communities are the cornerstone of value creation. Communities own and govern digital platforms. Communities share in the benefits when networks prosper. As a lifelong community organizer, @BarackObama should find a lot to like.

7/ Web3 is different. It can deliver greater accountability and transparency in information supply chains just as shipping companies are using the tech to bring more accountability to global logistics. But web3 also enables fundamentally different business models.

6/ The original sin of web2 is an incentive structure that's *designed* to erode free, informed decision making. Individual choice is *the* cornerstone of democracy. You can't fix this with a bandaid.

5/ More accountability and transparency in our information supply chains is necessary, but not sufficient to address this challenge. Breaking up the big platforms using anti-trust tools won't fix it either.

4/ The business model of web2 firms is based on gathering highly atomized personal data, and then using that data to slice society into smaller and smaller fragments so platforms and advertisers can manipulate our behavior. The business model is the problem.

3/ In the same way the last few years have revealed that our logistics supply chains are a mess, they've also revealed that our information supply chains are a mess. This was the main focus of @BarackObama's speech. But the problem goes much deeper...

2/ We need more leaders speaking out on this topic. Urgently. It's past time for a national debate on how to address the challenges of web2. We're not going to fix democracy unless we fix technology.
