In joaodrp/gelf-formatter#1 a new functionality was added to make it possible to ignore specific attributes at the root level. Example:
attrs = ["secret", "password"]
formatter = GelfFormatter(ignored_attrs=attrs)
# or
formatter.ignored_attrs = attrs
