Should be written: Texas law is claimed to be different, although it is enforced by state judges, enacted by the legislature, and fines are collected by the police, because the legislature designated private individuals rather prosecutors to initiate the procedure.

So, 42 million Americans just got their core food subsidy raised by ~25%, and it's buried not only under headlines from Afghanistan and Haiti, but even masking debates and movie reviews. Seems more headline-worthy to me.

WSJ rediscovers the new Poor Law. Threaten people with the whip of hunger and they are forced to accept any job on offer. These reduced unemployment rates simply identify states that force more people to accept jobs they refused when they had a choice!

Warren Court was the exception in SCOTUS history. Dred Scott, Slaughterhouse Cases, In re Debs, E.C. Knight, Lochner, to the present. Yet two generations of liberal scholarship focused on legitimating the court's antimajoritarian power. A Realist revival seems in order.

Valuable insights from and . At a minimum deplatforming contains some of the worst abuses. Still gets used more for copyright than hate (Figs 3+4), and obviously doesn't eliminate underlying profitability of selling hatred and outrage. But useful first aid.

The GOP coalition depends on mobilizing alienated white *non-college* voters (58%) by stoking anti-elite, racist, and sexist animus. Attracting "the most talented people from around the world" is precisely the threat, and the trifecta is when "the most talented" is a Black woman.

It’s intimidating, chilling & an embarrassment for an institution of higher learning. It targets a Black woman scholar for viewpoints expressed in her scholarship. Knight Chairs at Chapel Hill are brought to UNC w/tenure - the original offer made to . This is ugly.

"Supporting Israel" can have one and only meaning in 2021: ousting the arsonist-in-chief who continues to occupy, by constitutional default not by winning elections, the PM's residence on the corner of Balfour street in Jerusalem instead of the dock of an Israeli courtroom.

Hundreds of Palestinians are dying; Israel's population is in bomb shelters, scores injured, several killed from rockets; Israel's social fabric is tearing as right wing Jewish vigilantes and Palestinian citizens of Israel clash in anarchy All to keep one man out of prison.

"Supporting Israel" as the Biden Admin has done is like "Standing with America" would have been if American con law allowed a declaration of war confirmed by the Senate to postpone transition, and Trump+McConnell declared war in the lame duck to prevent Biden from becoming POTUS.

    5. If new elections are called (as they must, given the impossibility of the coalition ousting Netanyahu), and continue to result in stalemate as the last 4 have, the caretaker is the outgoing PM, not Netanyahu, and the indictment will proceed to conclusion by default
