Part of what makes it hard to respond when someone says something offensive is the uncertainty about where the person is coming from. Is this unconscious bias talking? Or did they mean what they said? Or was it something more insidious?

Many organizations want to diversify their talent pools and become more inclusive, but have no clue where to start.
Well, here's the thing: There's no point in having a diverse talent pool if you're not addressing issues of inequity at a systemic level.

We often conflate bias, prejudice and bullying, which makes workplace injustice feel like an intractable, monolithic problem. When we break the problem down into its component parts, we can begin to make progress towards solving it.

What gets in the way of fairness at work? Bias, prejudice and bullying. Once you add power and the systems that come with it, things go from bad to worse: discrimination, harassment, and physical violations.

What does a Just Work environment look like? (“Just” as in fair.)
Pretty simple. It optimizes for collaboration, not coercion. And it respects the individuality of every person in the organization.

Consider the pros and cons of having a direct conversation with the person who caused you harm. While it may feel intimidating or useless, not saying anything and staying frustrated can have a negative impact on your emotions and your ability to #JustWork in that environment.

It's normal to feel alone after experiencing or observing injustice at work but you're usually not! Ask questions and build your support system so you feel equipped to take whatever next step feels right for you.
