Remember earlier this year when the Scala Center’s official response to a first-hand account of sexual harassment by one of its founding officers ended with a disclaimer noting that it “does not pass judgment regarding the concrete case” of “alleged” abuse?

Unfortunately it’s not practical to automate this process, but if you notice something like this in the Wayback Machine, it might be worth taking 15 seconds to cross-archive it.

For example, here’s a deleted tweet about hanging race traitors (from a certain account that’s been targeting me recently). It was available in the WBM, where it could easily be taken down, but now it’s also in AT:

Public web archiving pro-tip: Archive Today doesn’t remove social media content on demand like the Wayback Machine does, and if you manually archive a WBM link in AT, it’ll get indexed under the original URL.

An amazing thing about the Twitter experience is that you can get targeted with a mass-reporting campaign by a ban-evasion account that was posting Day of the Rope memes last week

So by tracking the follower / following lists of several thousand public far-right accounts, it’s possible to identify some of the protected accounts that may be driving these harassment campaigns.

The basic idea is that while the follower / following lists of protected accounts can’t be accessed directly, these connections can be seen from the “other side” (if the following / follower account is public)…

I’m working on independent anti-harassment reporting that (among other things) highlights non-mutual protected followers that need review (based on their histories and who they follow). DM me for a preview.

I’d like the option of disabling QTs by locked accounts with whom I’m not mutuals. Locked accounts QTing is a major driver of targeted harassment campaigns. There also seems to be a suspension inoculation effect here. This is from a batch of profile data I’ve been collecting since early February, and in that time only one account with a country-specific withholding has been permanently suspended (out of 25,893 total suspensions).

The list of accounts withheld in Germany isn’t surprising (RT, Sputnik, a whole lot of Nazis), but the Russian list is odd. A few obvious accounts, but the rest seem like random individuals and gambling sites?

Is anyone tracking Twitter accounts withheld in specific countries? I just checked ~15 million live accounts and found 644 total (withheld anywhere), including 35 in Russia and 271 in Germany:
