"If the workers are organized, all they have to do is to put their hands in their pockets and they have got the capitalist class whipped."
Bill Haywood
Someone should probably tell the rich that workers banding together to present formal address of grievances is the alternative we worked out a long time ago to breaking down the factory owner's front door and beating him to death in front of his family? I feel like they forgot.
While the UMWA has been on strike for over a year here in Alabama you all have been nowhere to be seen. Maybe you can actually report on an issue affecting workers and families in #Alabama tomorrow. Feel free to reach out for details.
kind of feels like they're only extending the student loan pause because they know not extending it would be the thing to finally push everyone over the edge
I think it's fair to say that we all wish the NLRB was more effective/efficient but it is also important to remember that it is a severely underfunded, understaffed government entity that is hampered by bureaucracy and barely enforceable labor laws

The NLRA was never meant to further the labor movement, it was passed to pacify the increasingly militant unions of the time and prevent them from taking things "into their own hands"

Do we have any local union comms people that'd be interested in helping us with a potential expansion of the project? Shouldn't be too much of a time commitment but I think it'd be helpful. DM for details.
I can promise you that amazon banning these words/phrases from their company chat app just radicalized a bunch of workers who were on the fence about needing a union lmao
In 1979, total employment at the NLRB peaked at about 2,900 full-time staff. That year, the private-sector workforce stood at 75 million employees.
Today, the NLRB has less than 1,300 full-time staff. The private-sector workforce now stands at 128 million.
this is an excellent example of a union busting strategy called "third-partying" btw, employers love to make employees think that the union is some mysterious outside force coming in to boss them around and steal their wages
Dear Amazon, your employees = the union therefore, according to the transitive property, a direct relationship with the union = a direct relationship with your employees! congrats!
at Warrior Met Coal in Alabama have now been on strike 365 days, a full year. Why? Because we refuse to be exploited any longer. We refuse to do the same labor as other mines in the area for less pay and fewer benefits. We will stay on the line as long as it takes.
In times of working class upsurge, a lot of conventional organizing wisdom doesn't hold. That's a damn good thing and important to remember for anyone building a union.
Breaking UPDATE on Amazon union election in Alabama:
2,375 workers turned out to vote in the election, which is roughly 39% turnout. (Last election, 55% of workers turned out.)
420 ballots were challenged by both parties. The official vote count will begin tomorrow afternoon
