It’s a joyous, history-making moment for the Senate: We are moving forward on confirming Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the 116th Supreme Court Justice. Republicans opposed her in Committee but it doesn't change the end result: Judge Jackson has the support for confirmation!

I secured $2.5 million in federal funding for the new Mental Health Emergency Center in Milwaukee County and I had a great visit to see how this public-private partnership will better serve the community.

Judge Jackson is exactly the kind of judge and individual we need on the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court will be better off with the addition of her experience, evenhandedness, integrity, and humanity.

What plays out here in the Judiciary Committee with Supreme Court nominations is often driven and directed in other places, and the real action is too often offstage, in an archipelago of right-wing, dark money front groups that are out to capture the Court.

I will proudly vote YES to advance Judge Jackson, a historic & objectively well qualified SCOTUS nom. I hope some Rs will join me in doing so. What a refreshing departure from our tired tribalism it would be for us to cross party lines in support of this amazing nom. My remarks:

The Judiciary Committee is meeting today to vote on Judge Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination. As her hearings made clear, she’s immensely qualified and will make an outstanding justice. I look forward to seeing her nomination move to the floor for full Senate consideration.

“In its more than 230 years, the Court has had 115 Justices. 108 have been white men... Only five women have served on the Court—and just one woman of color. Not a single Justice has been a Black woman. "You, Judge Jackson, can be the first.” — Chair

On this day 54 years ago, a towering leader for equality, equity and justice was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. We will never forget MLK for all he did to change the course of our nation's future for the better. Today, it falls upon all of us to continue his legacy.
