Today is a historic day. For the first time in our country’s history, an exceptionally qualified Black woman will serve on the Supreme Court—and the Court’s decisions will be better as a result. She will make an exceptional Justice and I was honored to vote confirm her.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation is extraordinary, for more than one reason: She’s the first public defender and the first Black woman on the Supreme Court—delivering powerfully important experience to the bench. This is a joyful & historic victory for equal justice!

Our country isn't perfect — far from it. But today let's celebrate a nation that, as Judge Jackson said, in one generation went from forcing her parents to live under Jim Crow to confirming her to the highest court in the land. Today is a victory for our highest ideals.

Justice is served! I voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson as our next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court because she’s qualified, brilliant, and honest. And for the first time in two centuries, the court will contain the voice of a Black woman.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is one of the most qualified nominees I’ve seen, and will be a critically important voice on the Supreme Court. This is a historic day for our country, and a significant step in the battle to defend Americans’ rights for years to come.
