  7. This story is also about the U.S. lawmakers, and government more broadly, that cheered on the Hong Kong protests and then left many hanging as their plight fell victim to the completely broken U.S. immigration system and toxic politics. (Much more on this in forthcoming book.)

Love the but this is a weird way to frame the destruction of freedoms of all kinds. A territory that has dropped to 148th in the Reporters Without Borders index. Closes newspapers etc etc etc. Are we really still debating *whether* there’s a problem? I hope not.

Is it me or do these figures look relatively less-than-substantial compared to scale of challenges? 🤔👇🏻 “The new initiatives include $60mn for maritime co-operation, and the US will also deploy a coast guard ship to the region to enhance security co-operation.”

  14. "The foreign forces know very well where these people went and what they did. Stop playing dumb!" MoFA cuts to the chase and just declares them guilty. Speedier than whatever court they might face in Hong Kong that would very likely come to the same verdict.

  18. This arrest raises qs about how far down the chain the police will go in hunting 612 linked individuals. Lawyers who received funds seem like an obvious target as do the whales who donated big amounts, but will they go down to people who gave just a little? How wide a net?
