Deleting a project

You can delete a project to permanently remove it.

1. Navigate to your project.
2. In the top-right, click to open the menu.
3. In the menu, click Settings to access the project settings.
4. At the bottom of the page, click Delete this project.
5. Read the warnings, then type the name of your project into the text box.
6. Click I understand the consequences, delete this project.

Closing a project

You can close a project to remove it from the list of projects but retain the contents and ability to re-open the project later.

1. Navigate to your project.
2. In the top-right, click to open the menu.
3. In the menu, click Settings to access the project settings.
4. At the bottom of the page, click Close this project.

Re-opening an organization project

You can reopen a previously closed project.

1. In the top right corner of GitHub.com, click your profile photo, then click Your organizations.
2. Click the name of your organization.
3. Click the Projects tab.
4. To show closed projects, click Closed.
5. Click the project you want to reopen.
6. In the top-right, click to open the menu.
7. In the menu, to access the project settings, click Settings.
8. At the bottom of the page, click Re-open project.

Re-opening a user project

You can reopen a previously closed project.

1. In the top right corner of GitHub.com, click your profile photo, then click Your profile.
2. Click the Projects tab.
3. To show closed projects, click Closed.
4. Click the project you want to reopen.
5. In the top-right, click to open the menu.
6. In the menu, to access the project settings, click Settings.
7. At the bottom of the page, click Re-open project.
