The fact that Coca Cola is sponsoring COP27 makes me want to scream. We are beyond out of time. The people who will suffer first and worst and die do not deserve this. Fuck all the rich corporate ghouls and their parasites who are taking down this life-giving Earth for all of us.

And people who haven't done civil disobedience yet explaining to us how to do civil disobedience better reveal that they don't think what's happening is serious enough for doing civil disobedience. Please join us! With more people doing it, we will get better at it.

Some of us prioritize stopping Earth breakdown over even priceless works of art. People who don't think Earth breakdown is an emergency would find us silly or abhorrent.

Say what you will about the Soup Van Gogh action, I cannot think of a more efficient way of revealing people's priorities and whether they feel climate breakdown and mass extinction is genuinely an emergency. Like an x-ray into people's minds.

If you’re clutching your pearls about soup on a painting — over 1700 environmental activists have been murdered in the past decade for standing up to extractive industries. Your outrage should go to protecting and seeking justice for earth defenders.

In case you haven't realized it yet, climate activists are only getting started as fossil-fueled climate breakdown is intensifying every year. If this activism inconveniences you, consider directing your anger at world leaders who are completely failing to act

This, in turn, will require not allowing the fossil fuel industry a seat at the COP27 table. If the fossil fuel industry is once again allowed in (it was the largest delegation at COP26) I guarantee that COP27 will once again be a failure.

The only real metric of success is whether COP27 translates into causing global greenhouse gas emissions to peak and start going down. This will require a no-bullshit approach to reining in the fossil fuel industry and financially supporting the Global South.

Few things on Earth matter more than whether COP27 is a failure or a success. Global heating is a global problem that needs global coordination to solve. COP26 was clearly an abysmal failure, despite how incrementalists tried to spin it.

These were scientists protesting, and the German Chancellor said: "They make protests about climate and they think that's going to improve our discussions. And I think the best way to improve the discussions is not to listen and move on." So much for listening to scientists.

To many in the replies, it seems you somehow failed to understand me even though I was quite clear. I'm asking you to *demonstrate* your ideas for more effective civil disobedience. Don't tell us how great you think it would be from your armchairs, go out and actually do it.

To those sitting in their armchairs criticizing climate activists, if you can do better, show us. I'm being completely serious. We desperately need you to pitch in and demonstrate how to do it. Bring your brilliant ideas out into the world before we all lose it

To all the people saying "what odds, we're already truly fucked," my response is that there are very, very different levels of "truly fucked" and we are absolute fools if we don't fight as hard as we fucking can now to save whatever can still be saved.

Especially the fossil fuel industry though, it's very roughly an 80/20 thing, but I suspect we could end animal ag more quickly if we were to treat this planetary emergency like the actual planetary emergency it is. And note that the global rich are massively driving the damage.

The key to stopping the immediate damage is ending the fossil fuel and animal ag industries. The key over the longer term will be transitioning to a new sort of economy that doesn't worship profit and tech above all else and doesn't hand power to a small number of rich sociopaths

Also, the hopium at the end of the article is misplaced. We cannot count on lucky future cold periods. This is an ongoing trend caused by burning fossil fuels: Earth is heating EVERY YEAR and this WILL continue so long as we burn fossil fuels, ergo we must stop.

I feel very sad that people remain more outraged by this action than by irreversible Earth breakdown perpetrated intentionally by fossil fuel executives, even now that everyone knows no damage was done or attempted to be done. People just have no idea what’s coming.

The hysteria over this action defies belief. The false argument generated over it suggests mass derangement. The silliest false argument is this action is no way to win public support. This pre-supposes we were on our way to addressing the climate crisis, until this action. 1/🧵
