Well, this comes as a surprise to me. W3C standards group is collapsing because of an MIT contractual dispute?
Quote Tweet
At this point it looks like we will not have an operational W3C nonprofit on Jan 1. Every Director will vote their conscience, but it seems likely that the asset transfer will be rejected, leaving MIT responsible for its contracts with W3C Members (for which they have paid).

I'm looking at drone delivery technology. Any of you out there ever ordered something for an airdrop in your yard? If so, I'd love to chat with you.

Well, here's a way around Twitter's M*stodon link block. Though honestly, it's probably easier to just add a space in the URL and tell people to remove it. Via .

Not clear how investors feel about all this Twitter churn but Tesla stock is in my not doing so hot list today.

There was virtually no chance that the US would have provided Patriot systems to Ukraine before the war, and I'm not sure it would have happened without Russia adopting a strategy to target civilian infrastructure. This is a response to Russia's actions, not the other way around.

M*stodon growth slowed in the last couple weeks to <1000 new accounts per hour. Today signups spiking at >3000 accounts/hr. Notable given how much of a pain it is to sign up. Twitter is blocking M*stodon links, so here's the tracking account: @mastodonusercount@bitcoinhackers.org

BTW I checked and the Vivaldi CEO here (whose browser recently added M*stodon integration) didn't say anything on M*stodon about anything involving jet tracking. Or anything that seemed remotely malicious or spammy or misleading.

OK. This is interesting. This is what happens when you click my Vivaldi Social link:

What if giving bad covid vaccine advice puts other users at risk?

Re: the banning of reporters who have tweeted about Elon Musk’s jet, Twitter's head of trust & safety Ella Irwin tells me: “Without commenting on any specific accounts, I can confirm that we will suspend any accounts that violate our privacy policies and put other users at risk."

Mozilla (Firefox) is working with Google (Chrome) and Apple (WebKit/Safari) on Speedometer 3, an update to the website performance benchmark.
Quote Tweet
Unlike some past benchmarks, Speedometer 3 is being started as a cross-industry collaborative effort. Building this will be hard work, and working together gives us a chance to build the best version to help make the Web faster for years to come. github.com/WebKit/Speedom

Some discussion from a JPEG XL developer on Google's release of data about why it anointed AVIF instead as a next-generation file format for the Chrome.

Contemplating Codec Comparisons Here are my thoughts on the recent codec comparison by Google's AVIF team, that led to Chrome's decision to remove JPEG XL. cloudinary.com/blog/contempla

Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms iPhones use Sony image sensors. (Sony is the premier image sensor manufacturer.) I wonder what happened with Apple's 2017 acquisition of InVisage, which was working on quantum dot image sensors?
Quote Tweet
We’ve been partnering with Sony for over a decade to create the world’s leading camera sensors for iPhone. Thanks to Ken and everyone on the team for showing me around the cutting-edge facility in Kumamoto today.
Tim and SONY CEO Ken Yoshida look at a camera sensor demo on the iPhone 14 lineup.

Sony vs Marvel rights to Spiderman is fraught issue. But Into the Spiderverse was head & shoulders above most MCU movies. So much fresher, a protagonist with a personality, and you really cared about him. (Villain still lame, though.) Sequel is coming:

A northern shoveler, my favorite local duck. They use their huge bills to filter tasty tidbits out of the muck. Spotted in San Francisco Bay.
