Extract the Audio From an MPEG Video File With Audacity

An MPEG file is a universally-used type of video file. The audio of an MPEG file is one big Mp3 that can easily be extracted with the audio recording program Audacity.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
    Download Audacity
  2. 2
Search your computer for the file lame_enc.dll on your computer. Audacity will ask you for this file. You'll have to remember the folder it's in or make a copy of the file in a new folder. If you don't have it, then this website has a free download.
  3. 3
    Open Audacity.
  4. 4
    Click on File > Open.
  5. 5
Click on the MPEG video file. You shouldn't be presented with the video, but with the audio from the video.
  6. 6
Click on File > Export as Mp3.
    • If Audacity asks for the lame_enc.dll file, then go to the folder the .dll file's in and and click it.
    • If it doesn ot, then you have nothing to worry about
  7. 7
    Save the file.
  8. 8
You should now have an Mp3 audio file of the video.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Copy of Audacity 1.2.6 or later
  • The lame_enc.dll file
  • An MPEG video file
