Use a Template Code in Conversation on Talk or Discussion Pages on wikiHow

It’s important to know how to use a template code in conversation. Otherwise, someone’s Talk page or an article’s Discussion page will appear as part of an article list within a category. Here’s how to prevent this from happening:

EditSteps

  1. 1
Understand how to use a template in conversation:

    • Place <nowiki> prior to the template code.
    • Place </nowiki> after the template code.
    • The actual code, such as {{Thanks}}, should appear in your conversation.
    • Someone's Talk page or an article's Discussion page should not appear within a category.

EditTips

  • Generally, User pages should not be categorized.
  • By using this consideration, categorizers will be able to spend less time removing stray Talk or Discussion pages from the various categories.
  • To provide a link to a template, use "temp" within the code, such as {{temp|Thanks}}. The words, within the curly brackets, should appear green in color, such as {{Thanks}}.
