So you want to change your Tumblr URL? Maybe you're tired of your old one, or you think a new one might better capture what you're trying to convey to others. Changing your Tumblr URL (a.k.a. Tumblr Name or subdomain) is easy, and the best part is that you won't lose any of your followers. This article will describe this task to you.
Edit Steps
Edit Method 1 of 2: Change Your Tumblr URL
-
1Open your web browser.Ad
-
2Visit the Tumblr webpage.
-
3Click on the gears icon at the top of the page.
-
4Locate and click on the "Untitled" tab near the left side of the page. This tab should be located directly underneath the tab titled "Apps".
-
5Delete the old URL from the URL text box in the setting labeled "URL". Type in the new URL you want to use. Any URL not currently taken can be used.
- A good Tumblr URL catches the attention of potential followers and tells them something about what you're trying to do.
- A good Tumblr URL could be the difference between being re-blogged or not.
-
6Click the "Save" button on the right hand side of the page at the top. You can also find a copy of this button at the bottom of the page. There you have it, a brand new Tumblr URL!
-
7Understand what happens when you change your URL. After you change your URL, Tumblr will automatically update all of the pages associated with your blog, as well as any individual posts, to incorporate your new URL.
- Any built-in links (which lead from one page or post to another), as well as default pages like the "Archive" page, will also be updated automatically.[1]
- However, any links that you entered personally - such as links in your blog description or outside links which direct to your Tumblr page - you will need to manually update yourself.[1]
Edit Method 2 of 2: Redirect Your Old Tumblr URL to Your New URL
-
1Create a secondary blog. Create a secondary Tumblr blog with the same URL as your old Tumblr blog. The reason for doing this is so that followers who go to your old URL will automatically be redirected to your new URL.
-
2Go to "Customize Appearance". Then hit "Edit HTML."
-
3Replace the HTML code. Erase the entire line of code, and replace it with this: <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="#WAIT; url=BRANDNEWURL">
-
4Fill in the name of your new blog. Replace "BRANDNEWURL" with the actual name of your new URL in the HTML chunk.
-
5Fill in the the amount of time before the page redirects. Replace "WAIT" with the number of seconds you want your visitors to wait for in the HTML chunk, before they are redirected. You could use "01" for one second, or "10" if you want them to wait longer.Ad
