A grave situation wherein mischief seekers are more than ready to lure PC users to opt for the Mac Defender brand of antivirus for any security issue on hand. Not even averse to using popular variants such as MacDefender, MacProtector and MacSecurity to infect a PC with the most potent forms of Malware. However, PC users can relax for resolution comes in the form of step-by-step instructions on how to either avoid or manually remove any form of such malware. Starting with:

    Avoiding the installation of malware on a system: In cases wherein notifications about viruses or security software appear, PC users are either recommended to quit Safari or for that matter any other browser currently in operation. If that doesn’t work then force quitting the browser would be the best option. However, in cases where a browser downloads automatically and launches an installer for the malicious software delete the installer immediately using the steps below.
    • Access the Downloads folder, or your preferred download location.
    • Drag the installer to the Trash
    • Once done, empty the Trash

    Removing the Malware: In cases wherein the malware has been installed, refrain from providing credit card information under any circumstances or otherwise use the removal steps defined below. Starting with:
    • Move or close the Scan Window
    • Access the utilities folder in the Applications folder and launch Activity Monitor
    • Select all processes from the pop up menu in the upper right corner of the window
    • Once in the Process Name column, look for the name of the app and click to select it; common app names would be: MacDefender, MacSecurity or MacProtector
    • Click the Quit Process button in the upper left corner of the window and select Quit
    • Quit Activity Monitor application and open the Applications folder
    • Locate the application; say for instance MacDefender, MacSecurity, MacProtector or other name
    • Drag to Trash and empty Trash
