Which came first[edit]

Parts of Otter are verbatim copies from this (PDF), or vice versa. How would one go about determining which came first? ―Mandruss  06:10, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

See if those parts of the article were added all at once or gradually edited to the matching state, for one thing. DES (talk) 06:31, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Note that the PDF has a creation date of 2 Apr 2015 in its metadata for another. DES (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
And this is how the WikiP article stood at Mar 30th 2015. MarnetteD|Talk 06:38, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
PDF copied en.wiki, not the other way around. Went back through the page history and the identical parts I've checked up on definitely grew "organically" rather than single-burst as would have been the case when copy-pasted. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 06:44, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
I confirm this. DES (talk) 06:45, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks to everyone for their work on this. The situation has piqued my curiosity so I have two questions. Aren't they supposed to acknowledge that they used the Wikipedia article on their website? Since they copied the otter article how many others have they used? MarnetteD|Talk 06:51, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
They are supposed to, but many sites infringe Wikipedia's cpyright. i sent a coplaint about this instance. DES (talk) 07:00, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Here is another thanks to you DESiegel for taking the time to fill me in. It will be interesting to see it they reply to your message. MarnetteD|Talk 07:03, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Mirrors_and_forks for a very long list of sites thst copy Wikipedia contnet, with adn without proper attribution, and various actions people have taken over the years. DES (talk) 07:18, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── @Mandruss: @AddWittyNameHere: @MarnetteD: I sent the following in an email:

Your page at http://www.worldanimalfoundation.net/f/Otter.pdf contains extensive content copied from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otter without attribution or acknowledgement. This violates Wikipedia's copyright, and the copyrights of the indvidual Wikipedia contributors. As a regualr contributor myself, i object strongly.

and I got the following response:

Thank you for contacting the World Animal Foundation. Please note we have deleted the web page until the corrections can be made. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

World Animal Foundation, Inc.

and the link seems to be down at this time. Sometimes complaints do work properly. DES (talk) 04:08, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the followup DESiegel and your efforts in this. To my eye they seemed like a website that wants to be informational for their readers. Hopefully they can figure out how to acknowledge WikiP if they use any of our articles in the future. MarnetteD|Talk 04:14, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I have to echo MarnetteD here--thanks for the follow-up and the efforts! AddWittyNameHere (talk) 04:19, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
@DESiegel, AddWittyNameHere, and MarnetteD: Amazing. But same problem with this page and our article Porcupine, chosen randomly. In this case, they actually have their own copyright notice at the bottom of the page, so they apparently feel copyright is important when it comes to "their" content. Perhaps they would care to take down the whole site "until the corrections can be made"? ―Mandruss  04:19, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I had mentioned that possibility yesterday so thanks for checking on it @Mandruss: there might be others as well. @DESiegel: would it be possible for you or someone from the WMF to contact them and help them to understand how to acknowledge WikiP's copyright status so they could still use the information? Just a suggestion and if things don't work that way then disregard it. MarnetteD|Talk 04:25, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Ugh. At a very quick check just through the short per-animal blurbs at [http://www.worldanimalfoundation.org/mammals.html Mammal Facts (starting some bit down the page), I suspect that you're right and they may as well take down the whole site. Even without checking the most of them against our articles, I recognize some very distinct wikipedian-style leads.
  • "Common name" ("binomial name"), is a [member/species/etc.] of the (sub)family "scientific name of (sub)family" native to [area].
  • "Common name", also referred to as "various common names", is [a/the sole/largest/most common/etc.] species of the (sub)family "scientific name" ("common name for family").
  • The "common name" is a species of "common name" ranging from [area], throughout [area], to [area].
  • "Common name" is the common name for (the) x number of species of the suborder "suborder" (common name/meaning).
My guess is that 90%+ of their articles on animals are partially or mostly copied from Wikipedia. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 04:38, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
MarnetteD, my understanding is that the foundation (WMF) does not, as a matter of policy, send out complaints about noncompliant reusers of Wikipedia content. Their position is that the copyrights being infringed are those of the individual contributors to the various articles copied from. Look at the Forks and Mirrors page I linked to above, and you will see records of litterally hundreds of sites that reuse our contnet, many of them withoyt complying (or not complying fully) with our license. You will also find records of emails, telephone calls, and leters complaining about this, all from volunteers, not WMF staffers as far as i know. A few of the emails and letters were from me, mostly quite a few yars ago.
All I did in this case was use the "contact us" link on the home page of that site -- anyone could do the same. DES (talk) 10:59, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Referencing errors on Sacraments of the Catholic Church[edit]

Reference help requested. How can I have my article viewed and edited for publishing? Thanks, Jackgarcia49 (talk) 06:58, 30 May 2015 (UTC)jackgarcia49

When using {{cite book}} the value of isbn= should be jsut the actual ISBN, do not use 10: or 13: in front of the idbn, the tempalte can detect and validate the length. DES (talk) 07:06, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Diversifying editor contributions[edit]

Just heard a discussion on the BBC in the uk on how to diversify editor profiles. I have some comments - how can I contribute these? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.159.79.206 (talk) 08:56, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

@86.159.79.206: Sorry, I don't understand the question. What are editor profiles, and what does it mean to diversify or contribute them? ―Mandruss  09:06, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
I assume by "editor profiles" they either been Wikipedia users, or Wikipedia articles- probably the latter, since lots of companies ask how they can create their company profile on here. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:57, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
86.159.79.206, you can make comments here. Just click [edit] beside the section heading above, add your comments at the end, and click "Save page". ―Mandruss  11:11, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Name of King[edit]

Hi, we see many kings who when acceded the throne ruled with a different name. For example his real name was Mu'azzam but when he aceeded the throne, he ruled with the name Bahadur Shah I. Now how we will call the person in the article? Should we refer to him as Shah or Mu'azzam? RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 09:58, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

That would be better discussed at Talk:Bahadur Shah I, Royroydeb. But I suppose that "Shah" is a title, and not a surname, so that wouldn't be what should be used. Naming practices vary by culture, so I don't know the correct answer. DES (talk) 13:45, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Help:Cite errors/Cite error included ref[edit]

Article - RAF Kinloss history, Cold War. What cite error A is apparent and what hashtag is required? Geordie582 (talk) 11:36, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Geordie582 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geordie582 (talkcontribs) 10:44, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

If you mean the error in RAF Kinloss, Geordie582, that was caused by this edit. the technical problem was how the ref tags were used. The edit contained the text

"<ref>T<ref>Crew member for 5 years</ref></ref>

while in general a citation should look like:

"<ref>text of the citation here</ref>

that is a ref tag before the citation and a /ref tag after it. But the bigger problem is that "Crew member for 5 years" isn't a useful citation. Is that the title of a book? If so who wrote it and when was it published, and what pages support the facts in the article? Or is it saying that the poster or someone the poster knows had been a crew member in the squadron? If so, I am sorry to tell you that unpublished personal memories can't be consulted by anyne else, and so are not reliable sources. In any case the edit linked above has been undone and so the cite error is no longer on the page. DES (talk) 13:41, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. Currently, you are in Wikipedia, the user generated English Encyclopedia - and so attempting to utilize an encyclopedia as a dictionary will generally have about the same effectiveness as attempting to utilize a hammer in place of a screwdriver.
You can try the sister project Wiktionary, the user generated dictionary and might have better luck.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:47, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Anti-Catholic Bigoted Article[edit]

Gay bishops#Roman Catholic Church in modern times

This article is meant to inflict damage upon the Catholic Church and its clergy. It is not for informational purposes, but rather to smear. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.80.30.26 (talk) 03:58, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

No, it isn't. I've read the article, and the tone is perfectly within policy with regards to WP:NPOV. It's meant to inform, nothing more, nothing less. SpeedDemon520 (talk) 03:59, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
@74.80.30.26: The best way to address what you feel is non-neutral content is to learn about Wikipedia editing principles and policy, and become an involved Wikipedia editor. The second-best way is to post your concerns, with specifics, on the article's talk page, where other editors may or may not respond, and may or may not modify the article more to your liking. The worst possible way is to post a general and vague complaint at the Help desk, which is for questions about how to use and edit Wikipedia. ―Mandruss  04:03, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Catholic Charismatic Church of Canada[edit]

I am a Priest of the Catholic Charismatic Church of Canada. There are some serious inaccuracies and contradictions in the article. I tried to remove the first paragraph, but it was immediately restored. Our Church is not Old Catholic. It began as a religious community,The City of Mary, which was a legal, canonical community in the Diocese of St. Jerome. We are devoted followers of St. Padre Pio and Venerable Maria de Agreda. We are in the Ultramontanist tradition which teaches the universal jurisdiction of the Pope. We are not "Old Catholic" but rather a tacitly recognized ecclesia sui juris in accordance with THE CODE OF CANON LAW OF ORIENTAL CHURCHES. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.221.130.181 (talk) 09:25, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

The best place to discuss this is on the talk page of the article Catholic Charismatic Church of Canada. If you just delete sections of the page without explanation, other editors are very likely to restore them. Meanwhile, the article currently has no references. You, and anyone else, could help by providing references to reliable and impartial published sources, to confirm statements in the article. See Help:Referencing for beginners for instructions on how to do this. Maproom (talk) 09:39, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

National Automotive Parts Association edit[edit]

To whom it may concern:

The National Automotive Parts Association (NAPA) site was edited May 29, 2015, at 21:01, a process which deleted the accurate history of NAPA. Are you able to advise as to who provided this edit? Was it someone from NAPA or do you have other writers involved in the information provided about this company? Thank you for your kind assistance.

Martha Lyon — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.180.67.212 (talk) 09:43, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

On that date, an editor with the username Coromero made 55 edits to the article National Automotive Parts Association. These included at least one which removed a valid reference and replaced it by a broken reference. (I have no interest in automotive parts, and will show no further interest in this). Maproom (talk) 10:04, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
In keeping with this site's policies, I've removed your email address. any responses will be found here. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, so it's quite possible that Coromero has no connection to the company. Indeed, people with such a connection are deemed to have a conflict of interest, and are discouraged from editing articles themselves. Having said that, the only edits that user has made are to National Automotive Parts Association and the closely relate Genuine Parts Company, so some connection might be suspected. The Help desk is for questions about how to use and edit Wikipedia. To report a suspected error in an article, post on the article's talk page. However, in this case that would be a waste of your time. If you actually read the article, you will see where it states, "The headstone contains the incorrect birth year 1924, based upon the falsified materials among his military records." and cites a page at audiemurphy.com, where there is a lengthier explanation about the discrepancy. ―Mandruss  10:21, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Problems on Chrome[edit]

Wondered if other people were having problems on Google Chrome, or if it's just me? On any template with a hidden/show option, it's changed the default to show, and won't let me hide it- for example all the templates at England cricket team are usually hidden, but not for me. And it also won't let me use the sort function on tables, for example at Template:AFC statistics- which is a pain as an AfC reviewer. I've resorted to suing Firefox, where I haven't got these problems. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:43, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Creating content for sites of interest[edit]

I'd like to create content for a "Site of Interest." Similar to: The Music Hall (Portsmouth) Is that an "article?" Or is that a different type of template. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpjhouse (talkcontribs) 16:11, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

The Music Hall (Portsmouth) is an article. It is not a template of any kind, and does not use any template. My guess is that you would like to create an article about one of the items listed at Portsmouth, New Hampshire#Sites of interest, which is not currently the subject of an article. For guidance, you could read Wikipedia:Your first article. Maproom (talk) 16:25, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you Maproom That's just what I did. However, I did need to copy and paste from our own website, so that may take extra review. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpjhouse (talkcontribs) 18:25, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
You should never copy and paste from a website. It is likely to be the copyright property of the owner of the web site, and may therefore be promptly removed as in breach of copyright, as explained at Wikipedia:Your_first_article#And_be_careful_about.... Also, if "our own website" refers to a website controlled by the subject of the article, it is likely to be biassed, and unacceptable for that reason. Moreover, if you are associated with the subject of the article, an employee of it maybe, you should not be creating an article about it, see Wikipedia:Your_first_article#Are_you_closely_connected_to_the_article_topic.3F. Crash bar[edit]

I don’t wish to ‘edit’ this article, simply question the terminology used. Where does the term “Crash Bar” come from with regard to a Fire Exit door’s release mechanism? Is it defined by legislation or simply because in common usage somewhere?

I’ve always known this type of device more appropriately as a “Panic Bar”, which is mentioned as an alternative. However, I would suggest ‘Panic Bar’ should be the primary form of words. Particularly as “Crash Bar” is know the world over as a device fitted to Motorcycles. To protect its engine in the event of a crash.

AC Buck, UK Live to Ride, Ride to Live. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.15.227.212 (talk) 16:25, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Make that suggestion on the article talk page, Talk: Crash bar. See Moving for more information on the moving (renaming) of articles. The ability to move articles is one of the advantages of creating an account and becoming an auto-confirmed editor. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:55, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
But before you do, consider that what "you" have 'always known' may not be typical of the majority. I'm also a Brit (as I deduce you are), who formerly worked in Facilities Maintenance (which includes checking, maintaining and repairing such devices, amongst many other things), and never heard them referred to as "panic bars".
Neither of our individual personal experiences is decisive: we should be determine what actually is the most common usage. If formal Regulations prefer a particular term (as seems likely), it would be good to include that information in the article. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 212.95.237.92 (talk) 13:38, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

adding images in a talk side[edit]

1) I need to add a picture to a talk. It seems that to add image to a talk is forbidden. It is so? Why? 2) The picture to be added is taken by Google Earth: is this subject to copy-rights? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vcaini (talkcontribs) 17:36, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

I am not sure why you "need" to add an image to a talk page, but, provided it is not copyright, this should not be a problem - please note, however, that only images on Wikipedia Commons are normally copyright free - images with a fair-use license, hosted on the English Wikipedia are not copyright free so cannot be used on talk pages.
Google Earth images are very clearly copyright - it states this at the bottom of the screen - but even if it did not, that would not mean they were not copyright. - Arjayay (talk) 17:49, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

A-class rating[edit]

I have the article on Bikini raised to the status of a GA. The plan is to take to FA. But, I wanted to take one small step at a time. That means getting an A-class listing first. So I checked through all the projects that endorse the article, since A-class is a project specific affair. Unfortunately NONE of the projects had a A-class review system, and only one - Wikipedia:WikiProject Fashion - had one article listed, though without a process. Now what do I do to get that A-class review? Wikipedia has no centralized process like GA or FA or even PR for A-class reviews. Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:10, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

My advice? – Just skip straight to having someone review Bikini for Featured article status. I don't think there is any need (certainly no requirement) to get the article to 'A'-class first. As far as I know, there is no "formal review process" for 'A', 'B', or 'C' class status, just individual editors assigning that status based on their own appraisals and the Article grades guidelines. So, I think just go for it! --IJBall (talk) 00:48, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Hours of operation are incorrect[edit]

The usual Wikipedia statement is so fix it. You can edit the article. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:31, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Am I missing something? I tried to fix it for the IP, but I don't see the hours of operation in the article. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:40, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
A Google search for "Fremont Indian State Park and Museum" produces, on Google's results page, the information
Saturday Closed
Sunday Closed
Maybe 168 thinks that we here at Wikipedia are somehow able to correct Google's errors? Unfortunately we aren't. Maproom (talk) 19:48, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Unless I am missing something (and my apologies if I did miss it) the hours of operation are not mentioned in the article. There are a few things to consider before adding those to the article. Since the hours of operation are subject to seasonal change it is preferable to not mention them since that requires regular updating of an article. In the case of this article the last time it was edited was January of 2014 and those hours would have changed a few times since then. This is covered somewhere in the MOS but I can't remember where at the moment. Now I am not saying they can't be added - especially since I can't find where this is covered - it is just that caution should be taken when proceeding. In any event there are a number of websites (including the one the OP provided) where people can get the info they don't find at Wikipedia. MarnetteD|Talk 19:55, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
It looks like Maproom and Robert McClenon provided some answers while I was typing my post. Thanks to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 19:57, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I think this comes under Wikipedia is not a directory. I would omit the hours. DES (talk) 20:01, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) That is one. I was going to use this shortcut WP:NOTGUIDE but either one gets the OP to the relevant guidelines. MarnetteD|Talk 20:04, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Not giving opening hours is what we ought to do, particularly as the article has a link to the Park & Museum's own web site, and what we are doing. But giving the wrong hours (as 168 thought we were doing) would definitely be worse than giving the right hours. I would still like to know why 168 thought we were giving the wrong hours. Maproom (talk) 20:19, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm certain that 168 looked up the museum on Google and saw the hours posted there. I just confirmed that they are wrong according to what 168 said above. As for why they came here... Wikipedia is the very first link in the infocard in the results. So, they assumed that we provided Google with all the info. They didn't realize that only the description paragraph comes from here and that the hours are provided to Google somehow else. Dismas|(talk) 21:00, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes, it's so common for posters to blame us for Google's errors that we made a stock answer for it: {{HD/GKG}}. Opening hours are often taken from a Google Plus page, here probably the "Contact Information" box at https://plus.google.com/112096720452752563302/about. Google Plus pages like this are usually made by or can be edited by the organization they are about. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:56, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Martin Sixsmith movie Philomena was so close to my world/My mother was given up to the NY Foundling Hospital 1910/then they place her on one of the Orphan Train to East Texas/ This lady was the first wife of actor William Powell.[edit]

I have tried a million times to write her history. It took me 30 years to find this when someone told me about the Library for the Performing Arts in New York. The NY Foundling Hospital told me the same story about all of their records were burned in a fire so I gave up for a while until someone told me about Performing Arts and they save the day!I have worn out typewriters and gone through a few computers and addresses.

This movie was so like my mother's history. At time I want to name it Riches to Rags. My mom always told me: "These people are not mine, I came from New York City and this lady Eileen Wilson brought me to this place when it was cold, dark and rainy and left me there. I think it was December 12 1910. She was 3 1/2 year old. I did get my mother's original birthday and her mother was Eileen Wilson and father was Guy Alan.

I wished I had the talent of Martin Sixsmith! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:B8C6:5900:2835:784:6A7D:AF5A (talk) 21:10, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Redirect issue[edit]

I recently created a redirect from WP:AUTHOUR to Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Creative professionals (authour is the British English spelling of author). The redirect works, however the link I added in the shortcuts box of Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Creative professionals is still a redlink. Can someone help me out, please? Joseph2302 (talk) 21:51, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

It's because the redirect you created was WP:Authour, not WP:AUTHOUR Face-smile.svg - Happysailor (Talk) 21:53, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I have created the uppercase version now. DES (talk) 21:58, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm sure I've referred to WP:AUTHOUR quite a few times before, so it made sense for it to exist. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:01, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Brits spell author the same way you do. It's not like colour. Maproom (talk) 22:07, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Well I'm British, and I've only ever spelt it authour. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:10, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Some sources call it an obsolete spelling. In any case, I have reverted your edit with edit summary "Per Template:Shortcut#Usage, shortcut boxes are not meant to include all redirects, no reason to give alternative spelling of existing entry".[1] The section already has too many links in the shortcut box. The main purpose of such boxes it to show a way to easily link to or refer to the page or section. In this case there may be some justification for giving seperate shortcuts for separate professions but not for giving an alternative spelling of the same profession. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:16, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I saw, I only added it since I'm sure other shortcut boxes do have the British and American spelling. Wouldn't have done if I'd realised most people consider it obsolete. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:24, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Well, WP:OSE. Alternative spellings are always a poor reason to expand a shortcut box. You only need one spelling to copy a link from the box. You only need a redirect and not the box to make other spellings work in links and searches. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:05, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes I know OSE is a bad argument, and you're right. Although why should the one spelling always be the American spelling? In this case it should be (since authour is apparently infrequently used), but what about other cases? Joseph2302 (talk) 23:16, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I haven't said it should always be American. Being Danish, I don't care and wouldn't replace a spelling but just revert the most recent addition if there are two spellings. For articles, see WP:ENGVAR. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:49, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I know you haven't, but I think too much of Wikipedia is written in American. I'm going to stop posting here though, since I know the relevant rules, and so WP:NOTAFORUM probably applies to my last couple of posts. Joseph2302 (talk) 00:07, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Help:Cite errors/Cite error ref no input[edit]

I added the following information to the Leonard Covello entry as it would be incomplete if the effort to establish better racial harmony by Dr. Leonard Covello is not included. During this period of racial disharmony, he also had Nat King Cole participate with his trio by performing several songs, one of which was Straighten Up and Fly Right. I was a student at Benjamin Franklin High School and graduated in June 1948. Please include the addition as it would further show that Dr. Covello reached out to all ethnic groups. If additional information is required, please let me know. thanks, Eric Quirindongo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quirineric (talkcontribs) 00:16, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Quirineric It appears that in this edit you actually added only an empty pair of <ref></ref> tags, with the content you had intended to insert in the edit summery but never added to the article. I suggest you read REferencin for Beginners to learn how to use ref tags, adn you may want to practivce edits in your sandbox a bit. DES (talk) 01:27, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Reporting edit warring[edit]

There are two editors who are constantly reverting one another. They may have violated 3RR, I'm not sure. They have been doing this across a number of articles. I'd like an admin to step in and put a stop to it but I'm unsure on where to start. I was thinking of going through WP:ANEW but it is pretty much set up for just reporting one user. Which I don't understand since a war needs two combatants but I digress. And going in to start a discussion there, I see that the form to fill out is geared towards a war over just one article.

So, is that the right place? Should I just tweak the form to include info on both editors and as many articles as I think are necessary (they've been fighting over a number of them)? Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 00:38, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Dismas, I would advise filing two reports there, one for each editor, and including a note in each mentioning the other, although the diffs will pretty much show that anyway. DES (talk) 01:06, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. Done! Dismas|(talk) 04:14, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

The Logo for this organization has changed.[edit]

I have the new logo to input, along the much needed additions to the written area. I work with our Web committee but do not know how to change out this logo for the current one! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edpegme (talkcontribs) 00:43, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

@Edpegme: As someone with a conflict of interest, you and the rest of the people in the company, should avoid directly editing the article. Use the article talk page to make suggestions. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:04, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
@Edpegme: I have a few concerns about what you have asked here:
First, you didn't mention which organization you're referring to. And your only edit has been asking the question above, so I can't check your other contributions to maybe see which article you're talking about. So, what org are you referring to?
Second, it sounds like you work for the org that you are trying to edit the article of. That is a clear conflict of interest. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not an advertising or marketing platform. People who edit the articles about their place of work often have a hard time being objective and neutral about their employer. So, we don't suggest you directly edit the article. Instead, you are advised to place any corrections or suggestions on the talk page of the article in question. Please see WP:COI for more on our conflict of interest policy.
Third, you mentioned that you work with your "web committee". User accounts are not to be shared amongst a group of people. See WP:SHAREDACCOUNT.
And lastly, I along with other editors reading this board would be happy to help replace the logo of the org to a current one but again, we'd need to know where to find the new logo and what the article in question is. Dismas|(talk) 01:05, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Making uncontrovesial factual updates, such as changes in company oifficers or HQ or name or logo, is one of the things that people with a COI are allowed, even encouraged to do. (edit conflict)See Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Photographs_and_media_files and Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Non-controversial_edits.
If an editor displays the current logo, clicks "More details" and scolls doewn to the file history section, there will be a link marked "Upload a new version of this file" which will allow an updated logo to be uploaded. DES (talk) 01:11, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Point taken. Though the "much needed additions to the written area" were also mentioned. Dismas|(talk) 01:14, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
True, those might be a more serious concern. DES (talk) 01:19, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Edpegme's account is not autoconfirmed so it doesn't have the link "Upload a new version of this file". An upload request can be made at Wikipedia:Files for upload, but if Edpegme just said which organization it is and possibly where the new logo is then somebody here might upload it. Rakesh Varre[edit]

HI I m trying to put telugu actor Rakesh Varre's page in Wikipedia and I have been told that a proof in paper or magazine should be updated. I have one where his interview was put up. Please check and tell me if it works to put his page in Wikipedia. Thanks http://jhpublicschool.com/wp-content/hillside/hill-side-news-10-102014.pdf .... its on page 13. Veena Uppalapati (talk) 05:54, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

The criteria for a stand alone article are here for the basic version and here for the full version. An interview in a school newspaper doesn't cut it. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 06:06, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
It works for a source of information but doesn't do much for notability. It looks like that is a newsletter put out by a school that he attended, right? That's not a major publication. It would be better if he were interviewed in a national magazine. Dismas|(talk) 06:07, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Print article is including extraneous stuff[edit]

"Print page" is malfunctioning - it is including the navigation menu and other non-article content - even my username! This behaviour is new, though it has been quite a long time since I last printed an article. I'm using Chrome on Windows7 - both fully updated. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:00, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dodger67: I recommend WP:VPT for things of a clearly technical nature, especially involving malfunctions. But someone might happen along with your answer. ―Mandruss  08:07, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Have you tried Help:Printable#Printable version? PrimeHunter (talk) 08:43, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, heading over to VPT now, The help page didn't cover the situation, I believe it is in fact a malfunction as this has not happened before using the same browser on the same PC. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:03, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Rosemary Bailey Rosemary A. Bailey - disambiguation page - remove redirect[edit]

Hello, I have been working on the writer Rosemary Bailey's page Rosemary Bailey (author) which has now been accepted, but I have noticed that there is another wikipedia page for Rosemary A. Bailey, Rosemary A. Bailey who is a statistician, and that if you search for Rosemary Bailey within wikipedia it automatically redirects to Rosemary A. Bailey's page. I think there should be a disambiguation page with the two Rosemary Baileys so that this does not happen, or some other solution? Also there should not be a redirect from Rosemary Bailey to Rosemary A. Bailey but I do not know how to remove the redirect, nor do I know how to make a disambiguation page. I have looked it up but am at a loss how to do it. I would really appreciate it if someone could help sort this problem out. Many thanks!Berlin55678 (talk) 09:58, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Fixed Rosemary Bailey is now a disambiguation page. I replaced the redirect from Rosemary Bailey to Rosemary A. Bailey with a disambiguation page. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:09, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
With only two subjects with a same name, wouldn't hatnotes have worked just as well?--ukexpat (talk) 13:57, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
@Ukexpat: In my opinion no, since it wouldn't have solved the issue of what Rosemary Bailey links to, which was what one of the complaints was. There's no evidence that either of them is definitely the primary topic, so I figured this was easier/better. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:01, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

you have an error on one of your subject pages[edit]

The page when you research Libby, Montana is wrong. It shows the location of Libby in mid west Washington, which obviously wrong. Libby is located in NW Montana 1.5 hours from the Canadian Border and 45 mins from the Idaho Border. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.135.89.117 (talk) 11:04, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Are you sure? The map at Libby, Montana looks correct to me. It's at File:Lincoln County Montana Incorporated and Unincorporated areas Libby Highlighted.svg for anyone else to look at, but it looks to be entirely correct based on your description and my checking with Google Maps. Are you seeing the information in another article? --Jayron32 11:09, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Concur with Jayron32. The big white area in the map represents Lincoln County, MT, in case you're mistaking that for Washington state. ―Mandruss  11:14, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia entry for Dorothy Liggett Pelanda[edit]

I am Todd Thatcher and work as Senior Legislative Aide for State Representative Dorothy Pelanda. The Wiki entry lists her as "Dorothy Liggett Pelanda" and she does not go by that name - just Dorothy Pelanda. I have made the edit in the body of her Wiki entry, but it does not allow me to change the main title of the page from Dorothy Liggett Pelanda to Dorothy Pelanda. At her request, we would ask that the change may be made. Thank you.

Fixed New users cannot move pages, which is what you needed to do- your account needs to be 4 days old, and have 10 edits, in order to do it. The article is now at Dorothy Pelanda. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:08, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
