How to Do a Pivot in Netball
The pivot in netball is a balancing skill that involves standing on one foot and twisting your body around on that standing leg. It's a way of finding a teammate to pass the ball to without moving another step, making it one of the very useful skills you need to be a good netballer.

Steps
-
1Land on either one or two feet before doing your pivot. But most professional coaches will tell you that landing on two feet is the right way at beginning your pivot.
-
2Keep one foot on the ground. Then, using your other foot, push around.
- Your ground foot needs to stay in the middle. It is a bit like ballet when you spring; except, you need to push with your foot that hits the ground last.
-
3Make sure that your back foot stays firmly on the ground. This is very important as you are not allowed to move this foot at all in a game of netball. If your back foot moves, it is called stepping and the ball must be handed over to the opposing team.
-
4Practice the pivot often. It takes a while to perfect this skill but once you've got the hang of it, it will come with ease and will help you to be a strong and dependable netball player.
Tips
- Practice keeping your foot on the ground as you spin. Have a friend help initially, if you find it hard to keep upright. The balance feeling will come in time.
