Waaat? You can find eigenvectors for a hermitian matrix from the eigenvalues of it and its submatrices? New linear algebra fact discovered by physicists researching neutrinos https://www.quantamagazine.org/neutrinos-lead-to-unexpected-discovery-in-basic-math-20191113/ … I didn't quite believe it so I tried it myself: https://github.com/leopd/geometric-intuition/blob/master/linear-algebra/eigenvectors%20from%20eigenvalues.ipynb … It works.pic.twitter.com/B0TR7xcfFH

One of my fav design principles is "predictable performance" / "pay-as-you-go". Currently battling an interesting violation in conda: it's ~ok that conda's dep solver is slow, but not when explicit deps are provided. Same principles for making any auto-mode or solver-based sw.

Even after more than a decade of CUDA programming, I'm still blown away by how trivial it is to convert any large operation to CUDA and get a 100x speed up, with almost no code change. There is more to CUDA than just speeding up your matrix multiplies for ML. :)
