    One of my fav design principles is "predictable performance" / "pay-as-you-go". Currently battling an interesting violation in conda: it's ~ok that conda's dep solver is slow, but not when explicit deps are provided. Same principles for making any auto-mode or solver-based sw.

    Even after more than a decade of CUDA programming, I'm still blown away by how trivial it is to convert any large operation to CUDA and get a 100x speed up, with almost no code change. There is more to CUDA than just speeding up your matrix multiplies for ML. :)
