California is reporting there is 0% ICU availability available in the Southern California region, which includes Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. “You hear we’re at 0%. That doesn’t mean we have no ICU beds or staff available at all,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said at a press conference on Monday. When an ICU reaches 0% capacity, hospitals likely place patients in open beds elsewhere, such as emergency department rooms. The California Department of Public Health also reported on Thursday that the San Joaquin Valley region is at less than 1% ICU bed capacity.
