    This hand-painted silk fragment from was made by artist Jock Turnbull ca. 1913 and encapsulates a moment of artistic response to a long period of industrial change in Britain. It's on display at the Science Museum. Discover more on our blog:

    This week, Conservator Lauren is working on this object. It is a set of surgical instruments used by Dr Usher Williamson Evans worked in the Crimean War. Some of the instruments have corrosion so Lauren is using a microscope to carefully remove this under magnification.

    Today is . Did you know, attempts to perform blood transfusions date back to the 1400s? But it wasn’t until the early 1900s that the different human blood types that made transfusion a viable medical treatment were discovered. Read more:
