This is so gross. The LEAST they could do is offer a fresh N95 mask. It’s not as good as an elastomeric but a surgical mask is woefully inadequate.
As a society we should have dropped surgical masks as soon as acknowledged #COVIDisAirborne

I was. Especially at the Wasilla Assembly of God, where Palin was, as a young teen, born again. Wasilla AoG was officially Pentecostal, but it really wasn't. Its pastor was preaching of how three day-dead babies had been resurrected w/prayer.

Our older people contributed to society too. They paid their taxes and have a right to expect that society will treat them with genuine respect by acting with sincere efforts to protect them. “We are covid-safe” posters and empty ad campaigns are profoundly disrespectful.

We let these people down so badly by modelling the wearing of any old mask, only showing surgicals in government ads and by our health and political leaders wearing inadequate or no masks. By emphasising surface cleaning and by not ventilating and filtering indoor public spaces.

Patient of mine in ED in her 70s. In remission from cancer. She and her husband caught covid a few weeks ago despite doing their best not to. “We wear our (surgical) masks everywhere. We disinfect trolleys in the supermarket. We hardly see anybody yet we still caught it”.
