How to Get an Article Approved in wikiHow's Quality Review
Articles on wikiHow are not fully published until they have passed a quality review process called "New Article Boost". Articles which haven't yet gone through this quality review remain mostly hidden from the public.
If you want an article you wrote promoted to fully published status follow the steps below to accelerate the process.
Steps
-
1Read the wikiHow Writer's Guide to make sure your article fits our quality guidelines. To sum things up wikiHow is looking to publish high quality, fully detailed, helpful and easy to follow instructions to help people solve everyday problems.Ad
-
2If the article doesn't fit our the requirements in our Writer's Guide, keep working on it! Articles that are well written, detailed, easy to follow and clearly helpful to our readers will get promoted. Low quality articles which might leave a reader not fully satisfied will remain hidden from public view.
- If in doubt read these instructions to write a good how-to article.
-
3Understand the common reasons articles might remain unpublished after the quality review:
- Incomplete - Articles that lack rich, detailed, helpful instructions. Ask yourself: Could a novice read my article and easily follow the instructions to complete the task? If not, keep adding details and expertise.
- Duplicate topics - We would prefer to have one article per topic, than multiple articles on the same topic.
- Poor writing - Articles with poor grammar, ALL CAPS, and spelling errors typically require a lot of work to get ready to publish. Our volunteer editors tend to get to these articles last.
- Advertisements - Does it smell like an ad? See how to write about commercial topics for more information.
- Copy / paste jobs - Anything copied isn't welcome here.
- Format - We use a standard step-by-step format. See how to format a wikiHow article or ask a volunteer editor for help.
- Inappropriate topics - There are some subjects we don't want to cover on wikiHow. Read the deletion policy for details.
-
4Ask us to accelerate the process. If you are confident that your article is a high quality work that doesn't have the common problems described above, a volunteer would love to help you get it promoted to published status faster. Just ask us using any of these techniques:
- Leave a note with a URL for the Article Review Team. This is staffed by friendly volunteers who will typically get back to you within a day or two.
- Ask our community managers Krystle or Anna. They can get a little busy at times, but will be happy to help you when they can.
