Love how often there will be a CSS best practice floating around for years, like: 'This feature confused me once, NO ONE SHOULD EVER USE IT AGAIN' Unrelated: yes Cascade Layers will fundamentally change how we use `!important`. Might even be confusing at first. So… ?️?️⛔️?

Wait, what, ? Cascade Layers rolled out in Firefox stable release last Tuesday, and I missed it?! And setting aside the actual feature for a second,,, Y'all, my first spec is in a production browser (& I didn't notice). It's like OMG, & also shrug, & also WHAT. 🤯🥳?🤯?️🥳🤯

One question that comes up with Cascade Layers is how it's different from, or relates to, the concepts of a component scope & name-spacing. Here's how I think about them: - Scopes describe what is being styled - Layers describe where that style 'comes from' in a system
Grid of intersecting rows and columns. Along the top are potential scopes (buttons, cards, login) each with a colored rectangle stretching down the page. On the left are potential layers (from bottom to top: default, theme, component), each with a rectangle stretching across all the components, the top layer being darkest, and the bottom layer mostly transparent.

CSS (as a full specification) is now a quarter-century old. One generation. And still it continues to mature and deepen, like true love or a fine wine. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of its story over all those years.

CSS Text Level 3 transition to CR just approved. 2/3 of what was “CSS3 Text” went to CR as “CSS Writing Modes” and “CSS Text Decoration”; last third will go to CR on Tuesday as “CSS Text”. It has been 18 years since its initial “Last Call Working Draft”. Finally hit zero issues
